Breathing

Yoga Helps the Lymphatic System

Liz James · April 21, 2023 ·

Just completed my second class in Yoga Medicine over the last few months. Their curriculum takes yoga to the next level…. this particular course focus was on lymphatics, and it it did not disappoint! 🤓🔥🧘‍♀️

A few highlight moments for me:
🫶 flow in all systems of the body is key. If any are stagnant, health will, without question, suffer.
🫶even if you think you don’t need to…. help your lymphatic system do its job! Nobody’s got time for excess trash to be sitting around creating mayhem in the body.
🫶 the lymphatic system doesn’t work nearly as well as it could if you are stuck in fight, flight, or freeze mode.
🫶 the left side of the body does alot more work than the right side when it comes to lymphatic drainage (don’t neglect either side tho!) Lymphatic flow increases 10fold during exercise💪
🫶 deep diaphragmatic breathing is absolutely essential on the daily!… not just for pulling neurological trash out of the brain, but for healthy lymph flow in general. Nobody’s got time for brain diseases!!!! Just do it.
🫶deep sleep is critical for maximum brain cleaning (if you aren’t sleeping, message me, and I’ll give you some tips for improved zzzzzzzz’s🥱)
🫶Risk factors of developing lymphedema include older age, muscle loss, obesity, diabetes, autoimmune disorders, sedentary lifestyle, cardiovascular disease, cancer treatment, and post operative recovery period.
🫶just as in detoxing elsewhere, open the exit doors first before loving on your lymphatic system.

Breathing the Yoga Way

Liz James · March 8, 2023 ·

Breathing is something we all do…. at least hopefully so 🤪! But are you breathing properly? Breathing seems like such an unimportant exercise topic, but it’s not. Learning to breathe properly not only maximizes your workout potential, it also is the literal motor driving involuntary body processes like heart rate, blood pressure, proper posture, and even emotions. Breathing properly affects pain perception (think of the breathing work you may have learned for childbirth), and it even affects how we walk and how we use our arms. Crazy right? Crazy good…… God made us wonderfully! 🥰

Literally…. breathing 🌬 (whether you do it well or not) affects your overall wellbeing. Not breathing correctly has a negative effect on all of the above….. there’s not a neutral answer here. It’s either beneficial or detrimental.

Come learn more about breathing properly and get a good workout in the process.
See you on the mat on Wednesdays @ 7:30pm! Local peeps, message me for more details….walk in’s always welcome!
xoxo~ liz

Yoga is Good for Your Brain

Liz James · March 1, 2023 ·

There’s a delicate little system surrounding the brain called the glymphatic system. When in disrepair (eg: like a union garbage worker’s strike in New York City🥴), trash builds up over time. Long term ramifications of this= neurodegenerative brain dysfunction and dis-ease such as Dementia.

Be kind to your brain….. it’s the only one you’ve got!

If you’re local, come to yoga… Wednesday nights at 7:30pm.

You won’t regret being kind to your brain! 😉….. now or 20 years from now.

Message me for deets.

xoxo~ liz

Meditation

Liz James · January 31, 2022 ·

Meditation. Do you? Meditation is reflective thinking.

When I spend time in meditation, it allows me to clear my mind so that I can more easily “hear” what God is asking of me. How often do we neglect to do this? And yet, it’s asked of us.

Psalm 46:10 – Be still, and know that I am God. Choose wisely what you allow your brain to spend time “chewing on”. …For whatever you choose will change you.
