Labwork You Order

Liz James · January 3, 2021 ·

Hey friends! The labwork analysis company I am affiliated with has many packages already put together, or they have individual tests.

Here’s what’s included in one of the packages I recommend quite often….

Health data in 6 categories of overall health: 👇
1. Inflammation ( hs-CRP and Serum Ferritin)
2. Metabolism (fasting glucose and HbA1c)
3. Cholesterol
4. Hormones (specifically expanded thyroid panel and AM cortisol)
5. Nutrients (Vitamin D, Iron and TIBC, and Vit B12)…. knowing your D levels is esp important right now as it’s much harder to contract covid if your D levels are “high normal”. Knowing these numbers will allow you to supplement properly.
6. Core Tests (Comprehensive Metabolic Panel and Complete Blood Count)

FAQ:
* The labwork is ordered online (just like you would order anything else on line. Super easy!). You will get your labwork orders emailed to you, and then you will take the orders to your local Quest Diagnostics and they will draw your blood. The results will be emailed directly to you.
* This can be done without seeing a doctor in all states with the exception of: New Jersey, New York, Maryland, Rhode Island, and Arizona.

I would be happy to evaluate your labwork for you if you choose to order using the link below.   I do this as part of my health coaching on a very regular basis. The first 30 minute coaching call is complimentary… plenty of time to evaluate and discuss your labwork results.  Please message me for details.

Although these tests would not be covered thru insurance, HSA and FSA can usually be used. I can walk you thru that process if needed. Sadly, most insurance companies won’t pay for many of these tests anyway until you are already diagnosed with a dis-ease. It’s very backwards…. most times dis-eases can be averted thru early recognition of sub-clinical signs and symptoms (many of which are found in labwork such as this!)… and then the dis-ease itself can be avoided!

Finding Answers to your own Health Problems

Liz James · December 28, 2020 ·

Last week, I wrote about all the fascinating information you may learn from looking at the clues embedded (literally) in the nether regions of fingernails. You can find that post here if you need to catch up: https://goodmedicine.info/blog/health-clues-you-can-use-1

A clue means next to nothing if it is singular….. You’ll  need at least a few clues if you are to be sure you are headed down the right path.

Since we are only in the embryonic stages of becoming your own health detective, here are a few quick self assessment tools every good health detective needs:
*Honesty: If you are to be your own health detective, it’s important to acknowledge lifestyle choices and known consequences. The “it won’t happen to me” mindset will never work….nor will the hypochondriac’s lament. If you are going to do the detective work, be honest with yourself……using your clues to improve your wellness quotient thru diet, lifestyle changes and using supplements (and/or YL essential oils) when you suspect support is needed will go a long way to turning back the physiological clock.

*Labwork: Every adult should have bloodwork  done annually (more often if there is a visible problem). Even the uninsured or “undoctored” can get bloodwork done without seeing a doctor (message me if you’d like help doing this). I’ll cover what I consider “essential” labwork in a future post, so at the very least you’ll know what labs to request your doctor run for you.

*One clue does not make a dis-ease or a diagnosis. #clustercluesforthewin

*How do you feel? Think this over. Do you feel great most days? If your answer hovers more around the “meh” answer, here’s where you’ll want to start. There are many many posts within this group that addresses supportive measures for most of these topics:
👉Do you get enough sleep?
👉Do you exercise vigorously and regularly?
👉Do you know your recent blood pressure and blood sugar numbers?
👉Do you have a “healthy” bowel movement daily?
👉Do you eat in a healthy manner?
👉Do you have a close set of friends, participate in life fully, attend church?
👉Do you laugh often and enjoy life?
👉Do you avoid vices? (smoking and regular alcohol consumption especially)

*Consider keeping a health journal. Write down your clues as you find them. This will be very helpful to you as you learn how to be a better CEO of Y.O.U Incorporated in 2021, and will also help you decide which supplements or oils might need to be on your monthly “must haves” for 2021.

*Know your limits. If you have found several clues pointing to a significant health issue, please contact your preferred health professional. Naturopaths, Integrative medicine doctors, and functional medicine doctors are my personal first choice as they tend to look beyond the symptoms and address the root cause.

Last week I read several comments when discussing less than prominent lunula….. Fewer than 8 prominent lunula may be an indication of low cellular oxygen, poor circulation, a chronically weakened immune system, a possible thyroid disorder, or a Vitamin B12 Deficiency. Lots of possibilities, right? If you didn’t know where to start (since this is a first clue), what daily Young Living supplement may be supportive of most of these conditions? (Hint: It’s red ).

Frugal Emergency Care

Liz James · October 27, 2020 ·

Let me preface this post by saying it’s never a good idea to get your hand in the way of a sharp object! That said, life happens.

One of the reasons I embraced YL 7 years ago was this: preparedness. We live on a farm,  and minor accidents are not an  uncommon thing. I’ve gotten really good at triaging what “we can fix ourselves” and what needs bigger attention by professionals who stitch for a living.

I’ve heard it said that “your oils are expensive “. True. They can be pricey,  but quality products generally are. Let’s compare pricing here:
(We have a high deductible to meet, so all expenses would have been out of pocket)
Plan A:
💰A trip to the ER for a stitch up while company was in from out of town (time)
💰A covid test (personally not a fan of this)
💰Time waiting in the emergency room with a bunch of other people who might actually be sick.
💰💰stitches (according to this article, on insurance,  it’s 500$ per stitch  https://www.advisory.com/…/why-does-a-hospital-stitch… )
💰Avoiding a conversation as to what recommended toxins I should be adding to my body for the next 10 days. (priceless)
💰💰💰💰💰💰= roughly 1000$ or more (based on the link above, with insurance it probably would have been about 5 stitches)

OR
Plan B:
👀 Taking a look at my wound and recognizing that it was stitch worthy but relatively superficial.
* Applying the practical knowledge gleaned from reading and listening to others in our Young Living community. #PricelessEducation
*Having the tools on hand and having confidence in them. (Add Thieves foaming hand soap and Inner Defense to the list here)
💰 I estimate that I spent about 100$ on Plan B. 🙌🙏💗 #winnerwinner
Economics. Are our oils worth it? You betcha!
Have a blessed Tuesday!

First Aid Skills

Liz James · October 7, 2020 ·

The application of knowledge is power… and it can save you a ton of money and time too.
Had a little boo boo this weekend that ranked on the “stitchable” list.
Anyone could do what I did… assess the situation and then either apply self care, or head to the professionals.
In this case, self care was the definite answer because I had the tools available and no body parts were dangling 😂 #beentheredonethat
Girl scouts used to teach good first aid skills… do they still do that? This is stuff every person should know…. because life happens.
Here is my M.O. in such events:
1. Assess the situation
2. Clean up the wound #wehavetheantibacterialsoapforthat
3. Stop the bleeding #wehaveoilsforthat
4. Apply the nifty bandage #easytobuyandkeeponhand
5. Take extra  immune supportive measure (internally and externally for the next 10 days)
I trust my tools I have on hand…. that’s half the battle. Poor quality tools will not be your friend. (The other half is not being squeamish about a little blood!)
Do you have what you need to manage life’s little boo boo’s?
Our YL tribe teaches each other skills (like these) that used to be handed down generation to generation. We are the keepers of our selves, and it is a blessing to have what you need on hand and know how to use it!
If 2020 has shown us nothing else, it’s that we need to be prepared to care for our selves and our family (and pets!) as much as possible.
Come be a part of my tribe! We share info freely at the table!

Power to Heal – part 4

Liz James · September 22, 2020 ·

PART IV : A Renewable Resource:  You!
100 Trillion. OK, give or take a few… but that’s how many living cells we have in our body.  Our body is designed to constantly replace bad and dying cells for good ones. Some cells are replaced quickly (blood), while others take much longer (bones).
The QUALITY of what is replaced is largely dependent upon the building materials 😉 (what do you eat and drink?), and toxins you are exposed to (Remember, those toxins could be both physical or emotional).
Do you remember the parable in the Bible about the man who built his house on the sand (an unstable foundation), and a storm 🌊came (stress) and the floods came (more stress) and the house fell away? A second man built his house on the rock (a solid foundation) and the storm and the flood came, but the house on the rock stood standing. (Matt 7:24-27)
Our bodies are very much like one of these houses. We choose which one thru our daily habits and lifestyle. Our body’s foundation is what we choose to feed it, and how we choose to take care of it. If we feed it garbage (processed foods, junk drinks, poor “mind chatter” etc) and if we don’t work to maintain our moving parts (motion is lotion!) and keep our toxin load low,  our foundation will be poor indeed and will be prone to sag and ultimately fall in times of stress, wear and tear. 😢
Thankfully, God graced us with powerful healing mechanisms  provided we participate responsibly in the “care and feeding” of us! Every 15 minutes, roughly 1.5 billion new cells are created within a human body…. Every 7 years, there’s a whole new you cell by cell.  Are your cells constantly upgrading or downgrading? Well…… that depends! How are you caring for you?
We have the power to heal ourselves, but only if we ACTIVELY participate in the process!
xoxo~ liz
