Red Dye #3: A Toxic Timeline of Health Risks and Lobbyist Influence

The FDA has announced today that it is revoking the use of FD&C Red No. 3 because it is linked to causing cancer in lab rats (a known issue for decades and already banned in many other countries). Of course, the International Association of Color Manufacturers is upset about this, and says it safe πŸ™„. Wanna bet they’ve had a really active lobbyist or two up in Washington DC helping the FDA make decisions that impact our health for the last many years?
Let’s talk about Red Dye #3….. Not only does it cause cancer in lab rats, it’s also known to:
❎ be linked to genetic changes which negatively affect immune response
❎can damage liver cells and alter the DNA of liver cells within 4 hours of exposure
❎ may contribute to ADHD symptoms
❎ affect thyroid function (leading to cancer)
Nontoxic red dyes have been used for thousands of years with dyes coming from natural sources: beet juice, purple sweet potatoes, and red cabbage are just three edibles and ARE currently being used as healthy food dyes.
Note: Red dye #3 is also currently used by pharma….. so anything with a pink or red tinge to it likely is suspect. According to the FDA, Pharma will not be required to phase out their use of red dye until 2028 (pharma lobbyists be lobbying over there in DC!).
Another note: Clearly, the cosmetics industry was not up on its lobbyist game back in 1990…..that’s when the FDA declined to allow Red #3 in cosmetics because it was potentially dangerous. (If you are having to reread this, I agree….. make this whole timeline make senseπŸ€”πŸ™„).

When You Can’t Carry a Horse or Puppy: The Magic of Smell Memories

“Smell memories”….. it’s such an important part of our lives (and one of the many reasons our oils are so important in helping mediate stress (both acute and chronic) and trauma related memories.
I will forever be calmed by the up close smell of a horse.
I will forever smile every time I have the luxury of inhaling the sweet smell of puppy breath.
(Do you see a trend here in my life πŸ˜‚πŸ’–?)
But I can’t always rely on a horse or a puppy to make themselves available to me when I need them πŸ€—.
About 11 years ago, I started using StressAway on the regular. While it now also serves the purpose of being a “smell memory” which brings comfort and calm, it also activates several other pieces of my brain to work in tandem with that smell memory.
Yesterday was a stressful day. It was also a long day surrounded by other people who were also feeling the stress. I was preoccupied with all the going’s on…. so much so, that I forgot to put my trusty StressAway on. Late in the afternoon, I smelled it on a nearby friend who had whipped hers out and put it on. I could literally feel my shoulders soften and neck relax within minutes.
Smell memories are so important. My friend became a walking diffuser for me in that moment!

Adaptogens: Nature’s Stress-Busting Superheroes for Your Endocrine and Immune Systems

I’ve been learning some fascinating things recently about adaptogens…… have you heard that term before? πŸ€”πŸ€“

Adaptogens are a class of herbs/plants that have been used for centuries to support healthy function of the endocrine and immune systems. Of course, way back in the day, people hadn’t yet discovered the endocrine and immune systems…… they just knew that the plant worked! The same can be said for us now…. unless you’re really curious, we don’t necessarily have to know how our oils and supplements work in order to enjoy their benefits!…. the proof is in the outcomes. 😍

Aiding those two systems (endocrine and immune) also positively impacts energy, immunity, cellular repair, mood, sleep, stamina, and focus (There’s more, but I don’t want to write a novel! πŸ€ͺ).

Some examples of adaptogens include ashwaghanda, medicinal mushrooms, maca, licorice, holy basil, ginseng, and rhodiola (there are more!)

One of the many cool things about adaptogens is that, like our Young Living essential oils, they are overall safe and well tolerated (tho as with most herbs and medications, consult your favorite medical professional if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a “narrow therapeutic margin” medical condition, or are generally unsure βœ…#duediligence).

I love when traditional herbal medicine is studied scientifically….. not surprisingly when I did a quick search on pubmed.gov I found over 1800 published studies on ashwaghanda alone. πŸ€“…. lots of science to back up what we already have learned generationally through experience!

I am aware of at least 6 Young Living supplements which contain one or more of the adaptogens I listed above. Can you name them? πŸ™‚

Vaccine Dangers For Pregnant Women

Good morning friends! This is an excellent factual article about the lack of proper testing of vaccines on pregnant women (really, there is very very little testing done on any medication on pregnant women in the pharma industry).
If you know someone who is pregnant, or a couple who may be thinking about creating a new little human this year, this is a great message to pass along.
Informed consent and then making educated decisions is where it’s at if we are to be healthy as a country.
A healthy, nourishing diet, de-stressing, removing toxic burden, and getting plenty of sleep are wonderful ways to make strong healthy next generation leaders.
