Plants as Medicine

Horse (and People) Deworming

Liz James · January 19, 2023 ·

I’ve been using #silverliningherbs equine dewormer for several years now and LOVE the product (it’s super easy to use in addition to being safe for them). I also love that they send out a deworming schedule I can keep in the feed room as a reminder. I also love that they send out this schedule because it helps me plan when I’m going to start my 2-3 times a year parasite cleanse for my human self. It takes a little prepping to get my personal house in order beforehand. Making sure the digestive system is in strong working order, supporting liver function, and then the actual parasite cleanse. Have you ever done one?

Here’s a great reference for best practice start date of the actual parasite cleanse. Plan on 4-6 weeks of gut/liver love beforehand and during 😉.

We North Americans are a snotty bunch…. thinking parasites are only an issue in 3rd world countries. No so. We’re just as 🪱🦠wormy!….. maybe even moreso because it’s an often neglected aspect of health.

God’s creation is so amazing down to the tiniest details!

Liz James · January 7, 2023 ·

—Plants Produce and Store Essential Oils Within
Essential Oils within the Plant Parts

Essential oils found in trees, bushes, seeds, roots and leaves are produced by cells WITHIN the center of the plant. Most of these central cells resemble beach balls or drinking straws.

Essential oil in SEEDS: carrot, anise, fennel, dill, caraway
Essential oil in BARK: cinnamon bark, cassia bark
Essential oil in ROOTS: valerian root, ginger root, vetiver root
Essential oil in LEAVES & NEEDLES: cinnamon leaf, pine needles, fir needles, spruce needles
Essential oil in TREES: pine, fir, spruce, juniper, cedarwood, sandalwood, hinoki
Essential oil in OLEOGUM-RESIN: frankincense, myrrh, copaiba, elemi, pine, spruce
Essential oil in FLOWER PETALS: rose, ylang ylang, clove bud, neroli
Essential oil in CITRUS PEELS: orange, lemon, grapefruit, tangerine, mandarin, lime

Aromatic plants produce and store essential oil molecules on the surface and central regions of leaves, stems, roots, seeds, flowers, and wood. You’ve experienced plant essential oils many times and may not have known it.

EXPERIMENT. Go to your spice rack or drawer. Take out each spice and take a whiff. Now do the same for essential oils. You will find the aroma is STRONGER for the essential oils because their aroma is concentrated. ……..Cole Woolley, PhD. #colewoolleyphd

Happy Maple Syrup Day

Liz James · December 18, 2022 ·

Two types of souvenirs I love collecting on road trips……. local honey and maple syrup! Both are loaded with health benefits❤️
My most recent trip to Ohio yielded some delicious finds, along with a stop in Tennesee (bourbon barrel aged maple syrup😋).
Oh, and Trader Joe’ currently has a seasonal Organic Maple Vinaigrette that is delish!!
Do you cook and bake with maple syrup or honey instead of sugar? What’s one of your favorite ways to use either?

Guns & Poses 2022

Liz James · October 5, 2022 ·

If you missed the first 4, you’ve missed out! We’re back for the 5th Annual Guns ‘n Poses! Every year is a little different, but we always have yoga and firearms instruction. (You do not need to own a firearm, but it would be helpful if you did!)
