Is It Time to Rethink Psychiatric Medication? A Reader’s Reflection on ‘Unshrunk’

Liz James · July 14, 2025 ·

A hand holds the book Unshrunk: A Story of Psychiatric Treatment Resistance by Laura Delano. The cover features a classical painting of three women in period clothing, one comforting another with a kiss on the temple. A quote at the bottom reads, "A must read." —Anna Lembke, MD, author of Dopamine Nation.

One of the gifts my parents gave me early on was a love of reading. Give me a book any day over screentime. I use them to learn/research, become better myself, and also to relax. This is one I finished last month.

Considering the state of the world’s mental health in general, Unshrunk is an incredibly important book for many reasons, not the least of which is informed consent.

I have had suspicions about the effectiveness of psych meds for years. Not just the efficacy, but also the safety due to the collateral damage the body experiences over time, and in 2023, there was an incredible broad study done which confirmed those suspicions.

I’m happy to have a conversation with anyone on this topic. Mind, body, and spirit are so intertwined. If one is ailing, the others will follow.

If you are a reader and curious…. this book is for you. (Here’s a short blog too: https://www.madinamerica.com/…/the-cat-is-out-of…/…

If you are better with auditory learning, this is a GREAT interview with the author, Laura Delano: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PdWKkyooCk

Here is another interview that you may find interesting (for the record, I would never suggest getting off of a psych drug without the help of a medical professional): https://youtu.be/6OMbza-fHrk

Readers Are Leaders

Liz James · July 9, 2024 ·

At any given moment since I was old enough to read, I’ve got at least one book I’m working on. For years tho, it’s usually 3 books at a time:
📚 one to educate myself (science or medical)
📚 one to elevate my growth spiritually and in leadership
📚 one to put myself to bed at night and help my brain shut down…. usually historical fiction.
This is what I’m working thru right now….
Brain Energy is a fascinating look at mental health and how this author (a psychiatrist) has determined that mental health disorders are largely caused by metabolic disorders and can usually be managed when the metabolic disorder is addressed and corrected. (I believe he has a strong case here, especially when stacked upon unresolved emotional trauma and either a lack of connection to God or experiencing spiritual oppression.)
The Book Woman’s Daughter is an excellent historical fiction read about a family in Kentucky who are persecuted because of a genetic defect. It is the sequel to the Book Woman of Troublesome Creek, so read that first! Parts of it are heartbreaking😭.
Rare Leadership is a book I dove into about a week ago and I’m loving it! I’ve never read a leadership book that ties strong theology with brain science. I have a few other friends I spoke about this book to, and they are reading it too…. we’ve decided to have an impromptu book study that we’re starting in a few weeks to talk about it. (If it’s something that might interest you, order a copy and let me know and I’ll let you know meeting times/ dates…. will be by ZOOM).
Have a great week! xoxo~ liz

Clues From Our Food

Liz James · April 29, 2024 ·

I really love how we can get clues from our food…… doesn’t cauliflower look a bit like a brain 🧠? (I believe God did this on purpose for us as clues). I’ve been following Dr. Uma Naidoo for a few years now. I love an MD who deeply understands the healing power of food. 💖

Medical Freedom Victories

Liz James · January 13, 2023 ·

We are making strides friends….. keep up the good work! 🙌
Perhaps it has been the events of the last 2 1/2 years that are slowly opening people’s eyes to the reality….. Big Pharma💊 and Big Insurance 🧾and Big Medicine🩺 (aka: The Medical Industrial Complex) have a vested interest in our sickness, not our health. If we are healthy, we are far less likely to become a permanent commodity to their system. The healthier we are, the less profit for them.
Our grandparents and great grands were far healthier than the younger generations alive today. Immune systems are damaged by the tremendous number of vaccines kiddos are given. In the “olden days” just a few were given (in my elementary years, that number was less than) 😎. Today, a child isn’t considered fully jabbed unless they’ve received over 72….. autism, allergies, autoimmune disorders (and many other health conditions) have risen to obscene numbers. It’s now considered “remarkable” to be fully healthy. Some of the most remarkably healthy children I know….. remarkable in mind🧠, body💪, and intellect🤓 are the product of a jab free lifestyle by their parent’s choice.
Medical Freedom gives us the right to choose these things. It’s why we fight as we do. Without physical and mental health, we cannot fully be and do the person we are designed to be.
The CDC’s recently published decline (from 95% to 94%) in overall childhood vaccinations is written from the point of view that ground has been lost. But for those of us who have been standing strong and fighting this fight for many years, it’s a victory ❤🙌, and a sign of ground gained! ( link here: https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/72/wr/mm7202a2.htm… )
People are waking up. To God be the glory….. with enormous thanks to the foot soldiers who fight tirelessly to bring truth to light 🫵. The truth shall not be kept in the dark!
Since we talked about books yesterday, here’s a few more to consider when exploring the truth about vaccines:
1. Dissolving Illusions by Dr Suzanne Humphries (the first book that woke me up).
2. Miller’s Review of Critical Vaccine Studies (studies aren’t always what they seem due in no small part to who is funding and backing the study, and data is often manipulated. It’s estimated that 2/3 of ALL “scientific” studies can not be reproduced due to data manipulation.)
3. Vaccines, Autoimmunity, and the Changing Nature of Childhood Illness by Thomas Cowan MD. (Dr. Cowan has been fighting the good fight for truth and childhood preservation of health for decades. He is a true hero on the battlefield)
4. Turtles All The Way Down: Vaccine Science and Myth by Zoey O’Toole and Mary Holland . (I’ve not finished reading this one yet, but I can already tell based on reviews and what I have read thusfar is that this book should be read before agreeing to any vaccines)
The application of knowledge is power 🫵🧠💪❤️
