The Salt Of The World

Liz James · June 8, 2022 ·

A Well Seasoned Sleuth looks at Salt Sourcing
ย
โ€œYou are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under peopleโ€™s feet. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.โ€ ~ Matthew 5:13-16
ย
It is awfully hard to be physical salt and light in the world if fatigue has taken over your personal world. The verse in Matthew (above) speaks metaphorically. However, it could also easily be speaking to the bodyโ€™s physical need for salt. In its God made form (from the Himalayan mountaintops ๐Ÿ—ปto the ocean floor๐Ÿ), salt is loaded with life giving micronutrients. Every cell in our body needs this kind of salt. Our bodies rely on these micronutrients for healthy bone density, stabilized blood sugar levels, proper blood circulation, and thousands of other small but exceedingly significant ways in the body.
ย
Modern table salt, however, (the trample๐Ÿ‘ฃ worthy kind) is the stuff health nightmares ๐Ÿ˜ˆare made of. If youโ€™ve never given much thought to the type of salt you may be eating in processed or fast foods (or perhaps even lurkingโ€ฆ. as a clueโ€ฆ in your cabinet), consider the story of modern salt:
A far cry from the original micronutrient loaded seasoning, table salt is mined from deep underground, and then cooked๐Ÿ”ฅ at 1200 degrees Fahrenheit. As itโ€™s cooked, it loses the other micronutrients it โ€œmight โ€œ have contained. Anti-caking agents, fluoride, a less healthy form of iodide, aluminum derivatives, and other ingredients are added to keep the salt shaking freely. Salt in the โ€œreal worldโ€ is not white, and table salt is bleached to get its pristine color. It may come as no surprise that crude oil extraction is one way โ€œmodernโ€ salt is produced.
ย
Becoming an avid label reader is one more way to be a stellar health detective. While Godโ€™s salt is loaded with health benefits๐Ÿ™Œ, the man made version wreaks havoc on the body๐Ÿ˜ฌ. Diabetes, gout, and cardiovascular diseases are all aggravated by modern salt. It is also surreptitiously hard on the nervous and lymph systems, and will aggravate edema, lymphatic disorders, anxiety, and depression tendencies.
ย
To recap, manmade salt:
๐ŸšซComes from deep underground and is sent thru a fiery furnace
๐ŸšซIt is a poor imitation of that which is good
๐ŸšซItโ€™s highly addictive
๐ŸšซIt wreaks havoc quietly on a previously healthy body, and generally makes an unhealthy body sick
Itโ€™s almost as if Satan himself came up with this salty plan of attack on mankind, with his uncanny ability to take something so innocently good, twist the narrative, and make it bad.๐Ÿค”๐Ÿซฃ
ย
Original salt contains approximately 84 necessary micronutrients and zero toxins.
When used regularly, this type of salt (typically harvested from Himalayan, Celtic, or a natural Salt Lake source):
๐ŸฅณAids in hydration of the body,
๐ŸฅณImproves digestion (and helps remove sediments in the body which can build up over time leading to kidney or gallstones)
supports both adrenal and thyroid function (trace minerals are absolutely key!)
๐ŸฅณHelps regulate blood sugar
๐ŸฅณSupports healthy blood pressure
๐ŸฅณHelps the body detox
๐ŸฅณHelps re-energize the body at a cellular level
๐ŸฅณAssists in balancing the bodyโ€™s pH
๐ŸฅณOne theory of why osteoporosis develops is that the body begins stripping bones of their mineral and calcium content in an effort to neutralize acidic blood. Healthy natural sourced salt is alkalizing by nature, which will eliminate the need of the bones to โ€œgive to the greater good (blood). The body is able to survive longer with poor bones than with โ€œpoorโ€ blood.
๐ŸฅณEnhances communication between nerve cells.
๐ŸฅณHealthy natural salt also helps thin mucous and phlegm (yes, even when ingested!). Think about what a nasal saline rinse does as a physical example of this.
๐ŸฅณGetting adequate natural salt improves complexion, hair and nail growth over time, and also may improve the appearance of varicose veins.
ย
In adrenal fatigue, there is a little talked about hormone called aldosterone.
It follows a similar pattern to cortisol: its production tends to peak around 8:00am, and also rises during stressful situations. Aldosterone is a key player for the maintenance of water and certain minerals (electrolytes) in the body, and where they โ€œshould beโ€ within the body. Electrolytes are absolutely necessary for proper cell functionโ€ฆ just ask any high performance athlete who has sweated out too many electrolytes!
In adrenal fatigue, perhaps you may have noticed an intense craving for salt.๐Ÿค“ When adequate cortisol levels drop, aldosterone drops too. When aldosterone drops, there is a tendency towards electrolyte imbalance, causing the salt cravings. Hydrating without adding in electrolytes has the potential to aggravate the electrolyte imbalance by further diluting existing electrolytes within the body.
ย
Which brings me back to our naturally available micronutrient loaded salt forms!
ย
There is a homemade hydration support tool called Sole (pronounced Sol-ay).
Youโ€™ll need a Liter sized mason jar, a cup of Himalayan or Celtic salt and three cups of filtered water.
1๏ธโƒฃAdd salt to the jar, and then fill the jar with filtered water.
2๏ธโƒฃPut the lid (preferably plastic) on the jar, shake gently, and then leave overnight.
3๏ธโƒฃIf the salt is completely dissolved in the morning, add more salt and leave it overnight again.
4๏ธโƒฃThe mixture will be ready when there is salt sediment in the bottom of the jar. The filtered water is now completely saturated and cannot receive any more salt.
5๏ธโƒฃAdd 1 teaspoon of this mixture to a glass of water and drink it each morning when you wake up (30-60 minutes before taking medication)
6๏ธโƒฃIf you appear to have a detox reaction (such as a headache), start with ยผ teaspoonful and work your way up.
7๏ธโƒฃDo not use metal utensils to measure your product, as it can interfere with the solution.
ย
If you are not a DIYโ€™er or perhaps find yourself on the go and in need of electrolytes/ craving salt (remember, electrolyte balance is important in adrenal fatigue, and not just for athletes!), consider grabbing a bottle of the YL Vitality Drops- Lavender Lemon or Grapefruit Bergamot. (Do not confuse the YL Energy drops available as Jade Lemon or Spearmint Tangerine with theseโ€ฆโ€ฆ they donโ€™t do the same thing!). I love that Young Living uses electrolytes sourced from the Great Salt Lake, and not a synthetic source. The vitality drops are an electrolyte powerhouse!
ย
Get yourself the right kind of salty so you can shine your light brightly!

Healthy Homemade Formula

Liz James · May 13, 2022 ·

Feeding babies in a healthy manner has been around since the beginning of time. There ARE very healthy homemade formula recipes available out there should you find yourself in need of baby formula.
ย
Remember, prepackaged food is generally not uber healthy. In fact, sometimes it’s downright unhealthy. (Does anyone remember the Nestle baby formula fiasco a few decades ago?)
ย
I have been a follower and member of the Weston A Price Foundation for more than 15 years, and I stand behind their teachings. This is an organization that believes in both science and time honored healthy traditions.

Thyroid Clues Part 5-Medicine Cabinet Culprits

Liz James · April 20, 2022 ·

Remember the fable about the Princess๐Ÿ’ƒ and the pea๐ŸŸข? You may recall that the true princess felt the effects of a pea beneath twenty mattresses and had a terrible nightโ€™s sleep because of it. After all weโ€™ve discussed, you well understand that the thyroid๐Ÿฆ‹ is the discerning princess in the bodyโ€ฆโ€ฆit feels everything!
ย
Itโ€™s hard to pin down exactly how many people use medication chronically in the USA, but a rough estimate in 2017 was 66%. (I believe that number has risen significantly since 2020, but to date, official data has not yet been released).
ย
I will forever and always say that there is a time and a place for medication, but that it should be used as a last resort whenever possible. Pharmaceuticals by very definition are a toxin to the body. While they may be performing their โ€œFDA approved taskโ€ within the body, behind the scenes they are likely setting up trip wires, snares, and grenades elsewhere. Many commonly prescribed medications are quietly sabotaging thyroid hormone function as they outwardly โ€œplay niceโ€ in their appointed tasks of lowering cholesterol, quelling aches and pains, placating gastric reflux symptoms, smoothing out moody days, etc.
ย
Certain medications have the ability to affect thyroid hormones in at least four ways:
1. Some may alter the actual production of thyroid hormones.
2. Some may affect the release of of thyroid hormones from the thyroid gland.
3. Some may affect how well thyroid hormone attaches to (or utilized) at receptor sites.
4. Some may interfere with the conversion of inactive T4 into active T3 in the liver
Who are the thyroid accosting culprits?๐Ÿ•ต๏ธ As I hinted above, the gang is quite diverse. Nearly โ…“ of this gang of thieves bears a similar โ€œtattooโ€โ€ฆโ€ฆ.. They contain fluoride within their chemical structure. Youโ€™ll recall (hopefully!) that fluoride (and chlorine, another โ€œtattooโ€ found in many medications) blocks iodine from its job helping the thyroid produce thyroid hormones. These small doses add up over time with chronic use medications.
ย
Medications known to inhibit healthy thyroid function (in one of these four ways) with chronic use include:
๐Ÿ’ŠLipitor, Crestor, Vytorin, Zetia (cholesterol meds)
๐Ÿ’Š Prevacid (stomach acid / GERD)
๐Ÿ’Š Betamethasone, Clobetasol, Dexamethasone, Fluocinolone, Fluticasone (topical, oral or inhaled steroids)
๐Ÿ’ŠCelebrex, Ibuprofen, Naproxen (NSAID pain)
๐Ÿ’Š Lexapro, Prozac, Celexa, Paxil, Zoloft (mood stabilizers)
๐Ÿ’Š Haldol, Risperdal, Lithium (mood stabilizers)
๐Ÿ’Š Levaquin, Cipro (antibiotics)
๐Ÿ’Š Synthetic hormone replacement therapies, birth control pills
๐Ÿ’Š Amiodarone (treats ventricular heart arrhythmia)
๐Ÿ’ŠFluconazole (antifungal)
๐Ÿ’Š Interferon Alfa, Sutent, Sorafenib (chemotherapy agents)
๐Ÿ’Š Pramipexole, Ropinirole (for Parkinsonโ€™s)
๐Ÿ’Š Metformin (Type II Diabetes)
๐Ÿ’Š Furosemide (diuretic)
๐Ÿ’Š Phenytoin and Carbamazepine (for seizures)
๐Ÿ’Š Excessive Niacin (Vit B3) intake
ย
(Note that this is a short representation of a very long list of medications!)
I am in no way inferring that you should stop taking medication that you may be currently on because it may be affecting your thyroid function. That is a conversation between you and your trusted health professional. According to an article by the Natural Health Research Institute, almost 75% of chronic illness can be improved or cured with improved lifestyle choices. Has your health professional talked to you about this as part of your treatment protocol?
ย
Statistics like this are meant to empower you. Chronic disorders are generally where chronic medication use comes into play, and changing lifestyle habits can have a huge impact on health outcomes and on pharmaceutical needs.
ย
Five significant ways your choices can impact your health include:
1. Reduce exposure to toxins (thank goodness for our YL Thieves Household Cleaner, essential oils that do โ€œall the thingsโ€ in a natural gentle way, Savvy Minerals cosmetics and the ART, Bloom, and Orange Blossom skin care lines!)
ย
2. Making better food choices (and ditching the toxic processed foods)
ย
3. Exercise. There is an exercise program / type out there that will work no matter what health situation you may be living with! (NingXia Nitro or Zyng 15-20 minutes prior to workouts elevates my gym workout routine!)
ย
4. Sleepโ€ฆ.Make sleep a priority. Improve your sleep hygiene habits! Some of my favorite sleep aids are YLโ€™s Tranquil or RutaVala Roll-onโ€ฆ. Give โ€˜em a try and load your bedtime diffuser with oils like Cedarwood, Lavender, Peace & Calming, Frankincense, Orange )
ย
5. Manage stress. Recall that chronic stress is as dangerous as a regular cigarette habit to the body. Even simply working on the four previous suggestions will have a profound impact on better management of stress.
ย
In addition to making healthier lifestyle choices that lead to a healthier version of you (and protecting your thyroid๐Ÿฆ‹ in the process), hereโ€™s an added bonus: Annually, direct health care costs average $6032 out of pocket๐Ÿ’ฐ for an individual with one chronic disease (that number goes up with each additional disorder). Indirectly, chronic disorders also have a profound impact on education, occupation opportunities, income, and social interaction. If your health professional has not offered up these five recommendations as part of protocols for any chronic disorder you may have, they are working as a dis-ease maintenance advocate instead of that as a healer. Ultimately though, itโ€™s our personal responsibility to be our own advocates and in doing so, choosing whether to live in a space of dis-ease maintenance or healing. Care for that thyroid โ€œprincessโ€ within your personal kingdom friends! Itโ€™s often the first organ in the body to recognize that something is amiss.

Is Your Soil Healthy?

Liz James · April 12, 2022 ·

I found this cutie in our garden today. She’s a salamander! It’s the first one I’ve found in the 27 years we’ve lived on our farm.
We’ve worked really hard to keep our farm as chemical free as possible, and finding little critters like her living in the soil makes me extremely content and happy. ๐Ÿ™Œโค๐ŸฆŽ
Salamanders have extremely absorbent skin, and are very sensitive to chemicals because of this trait. Pesticides, herbicides, really… any chemicals will kill or injured them. More than half the world’s salamander species are on the endangered species list.
I have no idea what species this little one is? Maybe one of you know? I’m just thankful that she’s here (ha ha! Maybe she’s actually a he๐Ÿค”?) She’s our canary in the coalmine….. evidence that we are treating our farm with the love and respect it requires to be healthy from the ground up.
Here’s a little more info on salamanders:

May be an image of text that says 'Lookie garden what back in the ceso soil today. found she's in sate, the'
