Happy Birthday Georgie! A year looks good on you.
Farmgirl
The Liz of Many Hats
Since leaving a traditional pharmacy job in September 2020, I never would have dreamed I’d be wearing so many hats on a daily basis (and loving each one of them!). There’s more in my closet btw, these are just the ones I happened to wear today. God is so good and each day is a blessing to both give and receive.
Horse (and People) Deworming
I’ve been using #silverliningherbs equine dewormer for several years now and LOVE the product (it’s super easy to use in addition to being safe for them). I also love that they send out a deworming schedule I can keep in the feed room as a reminder. I also love that they send out this schedule because it helps me plan when I’m going to start my 2-3 times a year parasite cleanse for my human self. It takes a little prepping to get my personal house in order beforehand. Making sure the digestive system is in strong working order, supporting liver function, and then the actual parasite cleanse. Have you ever done one?
Here’s a great reference for best practice start date of the actual parasite cleanse. Plan on 4-6 weeks of gut/liver love beforehand and during .
We North Americans are a snotty bunch…. thinking parasites are only an issue in 3rd world countries. No so. We’re just as wormy!….. maybe even moreso because it’s an often neglected aspect of health.
Plain Values magazine (available in print for those of us who love paper in hand while reading) delivers some good wisdom on balancing humility with the pride of self sufficiency. We need community ya’ll. God designed us to need one another…. and resisting community affects mental health. (You can see the evidence of this by the escalation of mental health issues following lockdowns. ).
Homesteading is very rewarding especially when you find your community. Many hands make for lighter work! Some of the most beautiful memories I have when we first began homesteading in 1995 are the occasions friends and family came out to help us with some really big projects. It was humbling to be on the receiving end…. something Charlie and I are not used to.
Happy National Opossum Day!
If you would have told me we’d fall in love with a ‘possum a year ago, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have believed you.
Yet here we are….. celebrating one of the most maligned creatures God ever made!
They truly are amazing little mammals!
