Essential Oils

Energy and Sleep in 3 Simple Steps

Liz James · October 16, 2023 ·

I’ll preface this post by talking about a little experiment I did last month when Nutmeg was a freebie. You might recall that I had shared that I had read that taking a few drops of nutmeg at night (or using it in a roller bottle over adrenals) before bed can help with sleep. I committed to doing this for a month.
Β
UPDATE: I’m not stopping! πŸ€“πŸ˜‰πŸ«Ά….. who would have thought that nourishing your adrenals before bedtime could be helpful for sleep?!
Β
When your adrenals are already struggling, you might think… why stress ’em out by adding one more thing on your “to-do” list? Not this time friends…… give it a try. This month, in addition to my new bedtime BFF Nutmeg, I’m adding En-R-Gee into my day. (I already get the early morning sunshine as I do my a.m. farm chores at sunrise 🌞)
Β
Want to join me? πŸ‘‡
***************************************************************
πŸ₯΄Do you ever feel crazy because technically you’re β€œhealthy” and β€œfine,” but you always feel drained and depleted?
πŸ€’ Do you struggle to recover after a sickness, a stressful event, or even a few late nights?
😫 Do you start your day and run out of gas before you even begin, only to get energetic late at night and repeat the cycle all over again?
🀀 Have you tried everything to help your hormones, blood sugar levels, cravings, and weight but all the things people tell you aren’t working?
Β
There may be two tiny little glands in your body that need some love. Your adrenals.
The adrenal glands are small organs that sit on top of the kidneys. They maintain and boost our energy, kind of like a car shifting into first, second, and third gear as we go about our day.
They also help our bodies survive during times of stress. Since many of us live in a state of constant stress, they wear down quickly.
The adrenals are part of the endocrine system. Also known as the suprarenal glands, they’re involved in producing over 50 hormones that drive almost every bodily function, many of which are essential for life.
Β
Adrenal glands play a huge role in stress response. Here’s how it works:
β€’ Your brain registers a threat, whether emotional, mental, or physical.
β€’ The adrenal medulla releases cortisol and adrenaline hormones to help you react to the threat (the fight-or-flight response), rushing blood to your brain, heart, and muscles.
β€’ The adrenal cortex then releases corticosteroids to dampen processes like digestion, immune system response, and other functions not necessary for immediate survival.
β€’ Your adrenal glands are also responsible for balancing hormones.
Our adrenal glands aren’t meant to always be firing. They are there to jump in when needed and not be running the whole show. But excessive caffeine, lack of sleep, emotional stress, demanding schedules, hormonal imbalance, diet, alcohol abuse, and always pushing ourselves to the max can damage the adrenals to cause them to fatigue. This pushes us into a β€˜survival mode’ both physically and emotionally.
Fortunately, supporting your adrenals can be a pretty simple process. But functioning when they have given up? Almost impossible. So let’s give them the TLC they deserve!
Β
How can we help our adrenals?
We’re going to grab two oils.
β€’ Nutmeg
β€’ En-R-Gee
Inexpensive. Simple. Life changing.
Each day you will do the following three things:
β€’ Diffuse En-R-Gee every day in your home.
β€’ Apply Nutmeg over your lower back (adrenal area).
β€’ Get 15-20 minutes of sunlight exposure within three hours of waking up
The last thing you need when you’re fatigued are complicated steps or having to remember a bunch of things. That’s why you do it with us.
Why Nutmeg and En-R-Gee?
Both of these oils have unique properties perfect for supporting stress recovery, moving your body out of its fight or flight stress responses, and calming the emotions responsible for our survival instincts running the show and stealing our energy.

Heart Rate Variability

Liz James · October 4, 2023 ·

What is Heart Rate Variability? πŸ€”… and why would it matter to each one of us?
In a nutshell:
πŸ‘‰HRV is a scientific measurement of the body’s overall health.
πŸ‘‰Overall health is determined by the body’s capability to recover and adapt to changes in the environment.
πŸ‘‰The ultimate measurement of health is Heart Rate Variability.
πŸ‘‰A consistently low HRV is consistent with poor or declining health.
I was reading about HRV a few weeks ago, and I wondered if essential oils could have an impact on improving our ability to “bounce back”. Being the super curious nerd that I am, I started researching and found some super interesting studies. I won’t include all that I found here, but I did want to share one compilation with you. πŸ’–
It’s so easy to become complacent in what we do. Sometimes we fall off the wagon because we forget the “why” we fell in love with something in the first place.
Use your oils daily and often! For the “just the facts” crowd, here’s the abbreviated outcome. Lavender improves Heart Rate Variability which helps the body more quickly move from the Sympathetic Nervous system response (fight, flight, or freeze) into Parasympathetic Response (rest, recover, and digest).
Who is your buddy when you need help bouncing back? πŸ˜‰….. Lavender!

AAAh Autumn Fragrances

Liz James · October 3, 2023 ·

It’s officially Autumn, which means all things spice, fir trees, and seasonal immune system support! The old you (and me) probably bought a Fall-scented plug-in that belted out endocrine-disrupting fragrance which only further tanked the taxed endocrine system of anyone who is exposed, but pat yourself on the back…. you and I haven’t done that in years! πŸ«ΆπŸ™Œ Give some of these diffuser blends a try for Autumn aromatic health support! Yummy is as yummy does πŸ’–.
Which blend are you trying first? Oct 16th / Chai Tea is going down here today for me!

October Young Living Free Gifts

Liz James · October 1, 2023 ·

Can you believe it? We are in the final quarter of 2023. Autumn is one of my favorite times of the year, despite the fact that this time of year seems to always pick up in speed. (2024 will be here before we blink an eye! πŸ‘€πŸ˜)
Young Living continues to take good care of us with these seasonally appropriate gifts with qualifying purchase, and some of my faves for free?…… YES Please! πŸ™Œ
🌿Eucalyptus Globulus…. this is a fan favorite for its ability to effectively support an open airway breathing🫁 situation, especially when the struggle is real🀧😷! (whether that be seasonally or you just need a little breathing boost β›ΉοΈπŸ€Ύ! )…. but did you know that it also appears to have a positive effect on pain an inflammatory response simply by inhaling it? (Check out this and other studies posted in the “Discover our Research” sections on the YL website: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3703330/ )
🌿Stress Away is another personal favorite of mine! I have several open bottles strategically situated so that it’s never far from my reach. I use it for daytime management of stress. When I was working behind the counter of the pharmacy, a bottle could always be found in my lab coat. (And not infrequently, I would have co-workers borrow it πŸ˜‰). Perfume with a purpose….. this essential oil blend has a light relaxing aroma, and it does a great job of “diffusing the situation” when used!
Bonus points for the olive wood massage tool that comes with it (if you get it as a gift w/ qualifying purchase).
🌿 Immupro! πŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™Œfor freeπŸ’ž! This bedtime gem is packet with some of the most powerful plant based immune stimulants…. wolfberry and 3 potent mushroom species well known for their health super powers πŸ’ͺπŸ¦Έβ€β™‚οΈ. It also contains melatonin, a naturally occurring hormone ( which our body tends to produce less of as we age and during times of stress). Melatonin is integral to health…. both for ease of sleeping and for its VIP role in immune system function. (PRO Tip: This particular product has gone out of stock in the past, and there were many “woe is me” ‘s uttered throughout the world. When you find a supplement or oil you’d prefer to not live without…… keep a few bottles on hand. We are working with nature, and sometimes nature doesn’t cooperate in the world of supply and demand πŸ˜‰. I personally keep at least 4 bottles of Immupro on hand as backup! )
🌿Acceptance. In the last quarter of each year, it’s not uncommon to have some reflection on what was and wasn’t accomplished over the last year. It’s not a time for beating yourself up. Nothing good ever happens when you do that. True…. some things we all could have done a little better, while others are completely outside of our control. What we do have is the ability to give grace to ourselves while we regroup. Consider using this essential oil blend in your diffuser as an aromatic “reminder” during your morning quiet time, time of reflection, or time spent planning “what’s next”. Not everything is always within our control, and learning to accept that which is outside our power to change is a huge de-stressor!
Question: what is something you keep WELL stocked in your home…. because you’d be πŸ₯ΉπŸ˜πŸ˜¬πŸ₯΄if you ever ran out?
