Health Clues in Your Teeth – Part 1

Liz James · April 21, 2021 ·

I find teeth mysteriously fascinating, but it used to not be that way. Teeth (and toes) used to activate my gag reflex before I began learning about their wealth of clues. Now I find them to be wonderful guides and tools! šŸ˜

This particular clue is so very important that it’s the only one we are going to discuss today. Any time you have something that changes in or on your body, it should become an instant signal that something has shifted metabolically or physiologically, and the best course of action is to ā€œroot outā€Ā  the cause before bigger symptoms take place.

Perhaps you’ve been to the dentist and the hygienist has remarked that you have more plaque than normal on your teeth, or you’ve looked in the mirror and noticed this yourself. Hopefully this is not the case because you have loved on your oral cavity with Thieves toothpaste, mouthwash, and floss! Sometimes tho, even the best of oral care products doesn’t stop plaque build up. If that has happened, it’s time to start digging for the root cause!Ā

*But first, A little history about teeth and nutrition!Ā  Before there was refrigeration or even toothpaste, there were remote people groups worldwide who had solidly amazing teeth and mouths. This is well documented in the works of a dentist from the early 1900’s named Dr. Weston A Price. Dr. Price worked tirelessly to prove that oral decay and degeneration was due more to nutritional deficiencies than to lack of oral hygiene. His work revealed that fat soluble vitamins A and D and a probiotic rich diet were key contributors to healthy mouths, more so than daily brushing. An interesting unifying factor amongst all the people groups he studied was that all had some form of probiotic rich daily food source…. Something that the standard American diet falls woefully short in today.

*What does diet have to do with plaque on the teeth and why is it a clue? Here is where the clue becomes quite important! A diet rich in properly fermented foods (think traditional kefir, sauerkraut, miso, yogurt, cod liver oil, kimchi, kombucha etc) is a valuable tool for supporting a healthy gut. If the gut is loaded with healthy bacteria, the body is able to create other vitamins which are necessary for healthy living. For the course of THIS discussion, that would be Vitamin K2. #life9probioticforthewin

Vitamin K2 (aka menaquinone-7 , or activator X) is an underappreciated nutrient, in that it is vital for building strong bones and teeth. It does this by carrying calcium out of soft tissue (think brain and vascular system) and carrying it IN TO bones and teeth.
Stick with me ya’llšŸ˜ā€¦.. We are getting to the super important part!Ā

K2 activates something called osteocalcin and matrix-Gla protein. Matrix-Gla is present in saliva and its activity arrests the dental plaque calcification process….. It is also present in the blood, and when activated by vitamin K2, helps to remove plaque in arteries! Isn’t it interesting how matrix-Gla prevents both plaque on teeth AND plaque in arteries??

*If plaque continues to build up on teeth despite your best efforts in oral care, it may indicate a deficiency of vitamin K2, which may be putting your vascular system at risk.Ā

*A 2016 study found that matrix-Gla protein inactivation ( as the result of inadequate K2) led to a higher risk of death due to cardiovascular disease.Ā
*Now to be clear, plaque on teeth may happen as a result of poor oral care or a few other reasons too, but if you’ve never had plaque issues before, and now you do….. It may be time to dig a little deeper to protect your overall well being!Ā

Other signs or symptoms of a Vitamin K2 deficiency may include:
*Bruising easily
*Bleeding excessively (including a heavy menstrual flow)
*Osteopenia, osteoporosis or frequent fractures
*A mouth full of cavities
*Heart disease
*Diabetes or pre-diabetes
*Autoimmune disease flare ups (there is evidence that a Vitamin K2 deficiency aggravates autoimmune diseases….. especially Rheumatoid Arthritis)
*Forgetfulness ( a Vitamin K2 deficiency is linked to Alzheimer’s Disease due to the calcium plaque build up within the brain)
*O blood type – lacks some clotting factors in blood, so K2 supplementation is helpful

If you have noticed regular buildup of calcified dental plaque…..
šŸ‘‰Talk to your favorite healthcare professional and consider asking for a cardiac calcium score
šŸ‘‰Get your vitamin D levels checked
šŸ‘‰There currently isn’t a K2 specific lab test to check for deficiency.Ā
šŸ‘‰Consider supplementation of Vitamin K2 (recommended dietary allowance is 60-120mcg/day)
NOTE: If someone is on blood thinners, talk to a health care professional before starting Vitamin K2 as a supplement. It does affect blood coagulation, and therefore may interact with blood thinners.
And YAY you!!!….If you are currently taking Young Living’sĀ  CardioGize, Master Formula or Super Cal Plus, you’ll find that these three already contain K2 within each formulation (100mcg, 50mcg, and 30mcg respectively).Ā

As always, I am not a doctor and cannot diagnose, treat, or offer to cure you. I can only help you be a top notch detective for your personal health and wellness.Ā

Health Clues from Your Tongue Part 1

Liz James · March 30, 2021 ·

Tongue Clues: Part I
Nobody ever said clue hunting would be glamorous….. Just ask any dental hygienist about health clues found in the mouth! My hat’s off to these health professionals because they see many warning signs and health clues and (hopefully) help save lives in the process! The tongue alone will keep us busy! So grab a mirror and excellent lighting, and let’s proceed!
šŸ‘…The human tongue is arguably one of the stronger muscle sets of the body. It operates independently of the skeleton and, much like the heart, the tongue is always working. It helps in the mixing process when eating, is crucial to forming letters when we speak and assists in filtering out germs. Even when we sleep, the tongue is constantly working to push saliva down the throat.Ā
Ā šŸ‘…The tongue is also highly vascular. Even the slightest changes in the constituents of an individual’s blood will be reflected in the appearance of the tongue thru color, shape, coating, and markings.
Tongue mapping is an Eastern medicine tool, and Western medicine also uses the tongue’s appearance to provide valuable health information. According to Eastern tongue mapping practices (and I’d encourage you to do a little research on this), the tongue can be roughly divided into 3 sections:
Tip = heart & lungs
Middle = liver, gallbladder, stomach, and spleen
Back = intestines, bladder, kidneysĀ
As you look at your tongue, take note of where the clues lie on the tongue according to mapping.
In order to identify clues, we first need to establish what a healthy tongue should look like! The best time to look for clues is first thing in the morning (just like the Candida spit test!), before brushing your teeth and tongue.
šŸ‘…Color should be consistent across the entire tongue, and should be a light pinkish red, with a very thin white coating over it.
šŸ‘…It should be moist but not too wet or too dry.
šŸ‘…Small cylindrical taste buds on the entire top surface of the tongue.
šŸ‘…No cracks, ulcers, teeth marks, lumps, or discolored patches should be present.Ā
As you look at your tongue, first note the color of the tongue itself (not the film on the tongue just yet).
šŸ”ŽA very pale or light colored tongue may be indicative of iron deficiency, and is sometimes paired with taste bud atrophy, tongue pain,Ā  and occasionally cracks on the side of the mouth. A pale tongue may also indicate poor circulation in the body.Ā
šŸ”ŽA red inflamed tongue (sometimes known as beefy tongue) may indicate a folate or Vitamin B12 deficiency.Ā  Roughly 40% of the adult US population have a B12 deficiency. Frankly, that is not surprising considering the Standard American Diet and extreme overuse of antacids and acid blocking medications which inhibit Vitamin B12 absorption and assimilation.
Now take a look at the ā€œcoatā€ color your tongue is wearing (Remember, a thin white coat is healthy!):
šŸ”ŽA thicker white or yellowish coating on the tongue may indicate sluggish digestion and even possibly chronic constipation.Ā  Digestive enzymes (Essentialzyme, Essentialzymes-4, Allerzyme, or Detoxzyme) and Life 9 probiotic would be an optimal choice to add to your next Young Living order!
šŸ”ŽA ā€œsticky lookingā€ coating is suggestive of excess phlegm or mucus production in the body.Ā
šŸ”ŽA black or brownish tinted tongue is most often diet and habit related. This is often related to trapped bacteria and yeast. A permanent brown coating may be an indication of lung dysfunction and is often seen in smokers. There are a few medications that can cause a darker coating on the tongue, but this is normally a transient effect that stops once the medication is discontinued.Ā
šŸ”ŽPainful white or red patches on the tongue is usually a sign of thrush….evidence of candida overgrowth. It is commonly seen in poorly managed diabetes, after a round of antibiotic therapy, or steroid use (inhaled steroids are notorious for causing this!). All dis-ease begins in the gut, and candida overgrowth anywhere on the body is a sure sign that diet and digestion support desperately need addressing. #lovethegutyourwith

Health Clues in Your Fingernails #1

Liz James · December 22, 2020 ·

Learning to ā€œreadā€ your own body is a skill that everyone learned to some degree in days gone by….. much like tracking an animal🐾, interpreting weather signs , or ā€œreadingā€ 🌱 plants in a forest. Failure to do any of these things well could have cost you your life. Now we tend to rely on professionals (or electronics) to work exclusively on our behalf. There are many problems to simply handing over life skills to someone else to manage, not the least of which is personal vulnerability….. I mean, who has a paper map in their car?… and what would happen if your GPS suddenly shut down?

When we wait for someone else to ā€œfindā€ the problem, a slippery slope may result. Just like having low air in a tire, it’s so much easier to air the tire back up and identify and fix the cause of the low tire pressure,Ā  than it is to drive on it until it’s flat and damaged and has to be completely replaced (expensive!!) by a professional.Ā

Throughout 2021, I’ll be unpacking ā€œhealth clues you can useā€ to help you decide which supplements and essential oils may warrant further investigation or perhaps which lifestyle changes your body may benefit from. #wearealluniquelymade

Today, let’s unpack the lunula… finger by finger!Ā
The entire body is a storehouse of clues….. Especially hands and nails! Fingernails are a snapshot of the last 6 months of a person’s health….. The lunula is the crescent shaped area at the base of your fingernails… and that’s the only part of the fingernail I’m talking about today. Ideally, you wantĀ  8 of your 10 fingernails to have prominent lunula. Fewer than 8 prominent lunulas on the fingernails may be an indication of low cellular oxygen or poor circulation overall.

Lunula size also differs among different ethnic groups, and they are commonly absent on children. Keeping an eye on ā€œnormalā€ within your individual body is what’s important. Changes in size of the lunula are ultimately what should raise a hairy eyebrow. Overall, if the lunulas grow in size to cover more than ā…“ of the nail bed, if may indicate an ongoing endocrine disorder or cardiovascular issue. If the lunulas have almost disappeared , it may indicate low blood pressure, a weakened immune system, thyroid gland disorder or a vitamin (B12) deficiency.

The overall color of the lunulas are important too (taking into consideration…. Did you squish it with a hammer recently?!?😣)

Gray: severe fatigue, digestion disorders, and possible nutrient deficiencies
White: healthy and natural. Should be several shades lighter than skin tone.
Purple: poor circulation and lack of oxygen.
Pink: may indicate lower levels of physical activity and lung function
Black: a common symptom of heavy metal poisoning
Half pink/ Half white accompanied by a thinner darker band of color: possible kidney dis-ease.Ā

Moving on to each finger……
Pinky Finger: the lunula should be nearly invisible. Its appearance may be an indication of the function of small intestines, kidneys, and heart.
Ring Finger: the lunula should be prominent, and may be related to the health of the reproductive and lymphatic systems, and to a lesser extent, the digestive system.
Middle Finger: should also be prominent, and may be related to the health of your brain and vascular system. If your lunula is absent on this finger, it may indicate a potential issue with blood vessels or higher blood pressure.
Index Finger: should also be prominent. If it is tiny or nearly gone, it may indicate issues with your intestine or pancreas (get your glucose checked! Home meters are very inexpensive and do not require a prescription). A tiny or absent lunula on this finger may also indicate a chronic (not acute) upper respiratory dis-ease.
Thumb: should also be prominent, but not more than 25% of your nail bed. It may be an indication of the workings of the lung and spleen.

Matthew 24:28 contains an interesting proverb. ā€œFor wherever the carcass is, there will be vultures gathered.ā€ There is a wise lesson here. Seeing one clue does not mean much….. until you put them together with many clues (the difference between one vulture flying over head vs several circling). Clue gathering is a talent, but it’s one we can ALL cultivate…. After all, our ancestors did it with little to no formal education!
Let’s have some fun………knowing what your lunulas just ā€œtoldā€ you, how did what they say align with what you already know about your body? AND, whichĀ  YL essential oils or supplements is your body asking for based upon these clues?

Goldenrod

Liz James · October 13, 2020 ·

Good morning friends! Yesterday as I was driving home, I passed a large section of what I thought was ragweed. I stopped, hopped out, and snapped a pic….. (planning on writing about allergies). I Googled ragweed and lo and behold,Ā  I’m fairly certain what I had snapped a pic of was our highly esteemed Goldenrod!Ā Ā
This got me to thinking… and I messaged my friend Danette. Neither of us was 100% certain it was even tho it definitely looks like it. šŸ˜‚ #weareamateurbotanistsĀ
This little scenario made me value Young Living and all of their science and attention to detail even more so….. I mean, who wants to guess on a plant like this? It could mean the difference between effectiveness or a bad rash 😳. #wherethesundoesntshine

I also love how God gave us plants that have healing powers often just in the season that we may need it.

Most of us YL’ers know Goldenrod as that magical bedroom oilšŸ’–ā˜ļø………But it’s so much more than that! #alloilsaremultipurpose

Just a few other uses….
🌾seasonal respiratory supportšŸ‘ˆšŸ™šŸ‚
🌾relieves gassiness
🌾helps loosen mucus (drink more water too!)
🌾acts as a tonic to nourish and support kidneys and urinary tract #valuable
🌾supports healthy liver function

Immunity Help?

Liz James · May 24, 2020 ·

Just out of curiosity, how many of you would have raised your hand to be a literal guinea pig for a ā€œgroundbreakingā€ COVID vaccine trial?

Ummmmm no. Me neither.

And yet…… apparently, 15 human guinea pigs between the ages of 18 and 55 did just that.

Moderna’s ā€˜rona vaccine, the class favorite of Dr. Fauci (interestingly, financed by Bill Gates), had a press release this week regarding its first clinical trial on 15 healthy adults.

Three of the 15 volunteers developed Grade 3 systemic events (20% of the study subjects) when injected with the 250mcg dose.

What is a Grade 3 Systemic event?
* Per the FDA this would be defined as a health event ā€œpreventing daily activity and requiring medical interventionā€.

I dug a little deeper #becauseImacuriouscat……

Grade 3 is considered a ā€œsevere reactionā€ that includes one or more of the following:

šŸ’‰ Requires a narcotic pain reliever or prevents daily activity
Significant discomfort at rest
šŸ’‰ Redness and swelling greater than 10cm ( that’s a 4inch wheal/welt)
šŸ’‰ Fever between 102.1 – 104
šŸ’‰ Tachycardia (fast heart beat) greater than 130beats per min (bpm)
šŸ’‰ Hypertension (systolic- top number when reading blood pressure) greater than155
šŸ’‰ Hypertension (diastolic – bottom number) greater than 100
šŸ’‰ Hypotension (systolic- blood pressure too low this time) less than 80
šŸ’‰ Respiratory Rate – greater than 25 breaths per min
šŸ’‰ Nausea/ vomiting which prevents daily activity or requires outpatient IV hydration
šŸ’‰ Diarrhea – 6 or more watery stools a day or requiring outpatient IV hydration
šŸ’‰ Headache – significant enough to require a narcotic or prevent daily activity
šŸ’‰ Fatigue – significant enough to prevent daily activity
Myalgia – significant enough to prevent daily activity.
šŸ’‰ Illness- prevents daily activity and requires medical interventionĀ
There is also a panel of labwork that falls within this category. I’ll include it here:Ā

fda required labwork for trial participation

Because it is a trial, there are no long term studies as to the long term effects of the vaccine either on a human or their offspring.Ā  #ashotinthedark

20% of the subjects had a Grade 3 reaction. And those were healthy adults age 18-55….. wonder what that would look like in say…… 300 million people?

I personally have some questions….. šŸ™‹ā€ā™€ļø

* Will they be testing on children, the elderly, and the unhealthy before moving to release the vaccine to the public? After all…. (they bypassed the studies on primates and ferrets with Dr. Fauci’s blessings, so it is plausible that they will not be doing studies on children, the elderly, and the unhealthy prior to releasing the vaccine)

* How do they explain that, to date, there is no vaccine for the common cold, SARS, MERS, or Bird Flu although there has been plenty of time to find one #andtheyvebeenlooking, and yet they have been able to formulate one for CV-19 in less than 6 months?

* Prior attempts at developing COVID vaccines have been troublesome as an animal who has been vaccinated with a COVID vaccine then sickens and dies when exposed to the wild virus. šŸ¤” What would make this one different?

šŸ‘‰šŸ‘‰šŸ‘‰On February 4th, 2020 Dr. Fauci granted liability immunity to vaccine companies hoping to sell their COVID vaccine to ā€œwe the peopleā€ of the USA.

Liability immunity….. What does that mean?  It means that if things go wrong with the COVID vaccine…. real wrong… real, REAL wrong šŸ’€ …..the vaccine company would not be sued or held responsible. #hmmmmmmmm

Please, I ask you…. Is there any other industry out there that holds no culpability for a product that they provide?

Would you get on an airplane made by a company who was not legally bound to get you safely from point A āœˆļø to point B āœˆļø ?

Food for thought certainly.
