Biblical Citizenship

Liz James · August 19, 2022 ·

Good morning friends! Terry Billups and I will be starting our 6th round of Biblical Citizenship ClassπŸ™πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ on Sunday, August 28th.
Β
When: Sundays from 6:30-8:00pm August 28th thru Oct 16th! Start and finish before the holiday season!
Β
Where: from the comfort of wherever you are located!
Β
Why do I do this? (Good question…. I’m certainly busy enough already!) Though I was first drawn to stepping in to make a difference in our health and wellness world, it quickly became very clear that just like all diseases….. the terrain is more the problem than the actual germ. As a country, we have to get our “terrain” back on track again, and that can’t be done by ignoring the root cause and “pathology” of why we are where we are now.
Β
Total class time investment is 16 hours…. an hour and a half weekly for 8 weeks. The return on your investment is priceless! (I promise! … you’ll never look at history, our country, or your civic responsibilities the same again. In other words, if you want to keep your head buried in the ever deepening sand, DON’T take this class πŸ˜‰).
Β
Cost: Free
Β
Cost for not taking the class: continual loss of freedom (Together we rise).
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children. ” ~ Hosea 4:6 πŸ‘†Let’s not be THOSE people.
Β
Here’s a link to register for the class! We look forward spending this priceless time with you. https://www.patriotacademy.com/coach/register/4718

Fetal Programming

Liz James · August 16, 2022 ·

The Southern Side of the Endocrine System: What in the heck is fetal programming?
Β
You’ve heard it, and perhaps you’ve even believed it…. the puffed up 10% truth most of us have been trained to wholly believe… that genetics largely determines our health fate. However, if you’ve stuck with me this long you’re a seasoned super sleuth and will already know that we have the upper hand. In becoming the conscientious gatekeepers of our personal β€œtemples” (see I Corinthians 6:19), we are prohibiting the careless destruction caused by all things toxic to the mind, body, and spirit, and are largely (upwards of 90+%) able to prevent and circumvent the expression of wayward genes. THIS is what personal health and wellness management should look like.
Β
There is another aspect to this though that I’ve not yet mentioned: womb life, and what that means to us as adults. β€œFetal programming” is the propensity for developing a disease or dysfunction later in life based solely on environmental womb conditions… not genetics. Fetal programming starts the moment Harry (sperm) met Sally (egg) on the fallopian tube highway , and the effects of it will be felt throughout life and the life of your kids. Yes, what happened in your womb experience can affect future generations. Talk about scripture being walked out in life! (Exodus 20:5)
Β
Because I believe in learning from history, let me give you a well documented example of this phenomenon. During the winter of 1944 World War II, the Dutch suffered a 6 month starvation event at the hands of the Nazi’s. More than 4 million people were affected, surviving on about 30% of normal caloric intake. As you might suspect, pregnant women who lived through the Dutch Hunger Winter gave birth to babies who weighed a fraction of what a term baby should weigh. As adults, these children were found to be more susceptible to diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease and other health problems, while their siblings did not. As a result of being starved β€œin utero”, their bodies developed a β€œthrifty” mechanism which altered insulin production and the normal metabolism of sugar. As a consequence, when these children grew into adulthood and lived in a β€œnormal food availability” world, their body still responded as though it was living in a state of starvation.
Β
While an adaptation like this is meant to be a survival mechanism, it doesn’t always work out that way in health.
Β
More examples of this include:
🧐A 2009 study which showed an association between maternal anxiety during pregnancy and the development of asthma in offspring.
🧐A 2011 study which looked at the effects of a violent environment on a fetus during pregnancy. Offspring tended to have poorer health, more difficult temperament, and increased likelihood of depression.
🧐A May 2022 study found that maternal prenatal depressive symptoms had a negative effect on toddler behavior which began expressing by the time they were 18 months old.
🧐Research has also shown that even chronic (key word) mildly stressful living situations can lead to negative changes in the fetus neurologically. The formation of neurons in a fetus begins at the 42nd day of pregnancy, and by the 28th week of pregnancy, a baby’s brain contains billions of neurons….. 40% MORE than the adult brain contains. After the 28th week of pregnancy, complex structural and functional changes in the brain take place, and a chronically stressful environment has an effect on this development. The environmental impact of womb life on a baby’s brain and body development is huge!
Perhaps you are curious how this happens…. ie: the root causes?
πŸ‘ΆDuring stress, there is a rise of maternal cortisol activity in the mom. A chronic higher than normal cortisol activity is thought to lead to the triggering of atherosclerosis, insulin resistance, and cholesterol levels as the babies advance through their own adulthood. Low birth weight babies (a clue!) are more likely to grow up having an exaggerated stress response and secrete higher levels of cortisol themselves, have a decreased vascular elasticity and delayed vasodilation (leading to issues related to high blood pressure), have fewer pancreatic beta cells (the cells that make insulin), and tend towards osteoporosis in adulthood.
πŸ‘ΆStress also activates the inflammation process in the baby’s body, which leads to activation of the immune system, releasing chemicals called cytokines. Cytokines are not a bad thing until there is overproduction or inappropriate production, at which point disease or dysfunction occurs.
πŸ‘ΆA baby’s brain does not begin to produce serotonin until late in pregnancy. The placenta does provide serotonin to the baby at a level which helps develop both structure and function of the baby’s brain. Animal studies have shown that increased serotonin exposure to fetal brain tissue in utero alters many neuronal circuits which can lead to behavioral problems later in life.
πŸ‘ΆNeonatal nutritional deficiencies can affect fetal programming. Malnutrition comes in two forms: under nutrition (scarcity of food) and unhealthy eating habits with high calorie, low nutrition diets. Both result in a lack of essential micronutrients such as iron, folate, choline, vitamin B12, zinc, tryptophan, omega 3 fatty acids and iodine which are crucial to fetal brain development.
Β
All of this has profound implications on us as adults, but also on babies πŸ‘Άforming in the womb. For us grownup humans, if it is suspected (or known) that we were carried by our mothers under stressful conditions, some of us may have to work a little harderπŸ™πŸ’ͺ😴 at mediating stress response because of our own fetal programming scenario. Half the battle is understanding the why. πŸ˜‰The other half is knowing how to use the tools we have on hand to help support a healthy mind and body. Thank goodness for these tools of ours! I’ve talked at length about them, so I leave it up to you to revisit those posts. Ideally, please share in the comments below what modalities you have found that work best for you. Our personal stories help light the path so that others may also find their way.
Β
Now, what about these sweet babiesπŸ‘Άin the womb? Thankfully, the placenta plays a vital role in protecting the baby from harmful chemicals that may be in the mother’s blood by acting as both a barrier and a filtration system. A healthy functioning placenta will go a long way to prevent a biochemical or synthetic chemical cause for negative fetal programming. I always smile when I hear a new mama talking about how her midwife or doctor marveled over the beauty of her placenta that was supported daily with NingXia Red. There are soooo many of these stories out there! Some of the ways a healthy placenta may be supported include: NingXia Red, Master Formula, Super C Chewables, Mineral Essence, Sulfurzyme, Multigreens, Super B.* (*all with approval from your trusted doctor or midwife of course! ).
Β
The good news is that fetal programming works both ways. Incorporating a healthy mind, body, and spirit/ soul experience throughout pregnancy with improved quality of food eaten, reduced exposure to hormone disruptive and toxic environmental chemicals and mediating maternal anxiety in natural ways improves the chances of a positively β€œprogrammed” tiny person who is more apt to be able to roll with life’s punches physically and emotionally. Remember too, that thoughts and words mean something to the body whether that body is an adult or a fetus, and the effects may either be a honeyed balm or a toxin. Words matter, and the body reflects what we think and feel about ourselves.
Β
Use your Thieves Household Cleaner. Toss the toxins.
Diffuse your favorite Young Living essential oils. Ditch the endocrine disrupting fake fragrance air fresheners and plug-ins.
Honor your body and the bodies of future generations with your choices.
Think about all those little babies who are worth it! So are we. Each one of us.

The Toxic Truth About Food and What You Can Do About It

Cloud Curiosities

Liz James · August 6, 2022 ·

Alrighty friends, I’m driving thru the Midwest heading north to Ohio to teach a class. Does anyone have any insight on this type of cloud formation? I can’t say I’ve ever seen a cloud quite like that beforeπŸ˜³πŸ€”.

August Loyalty Gifts

Liz James · August 1, 2022 ·

August, friends! We blinked and it’s here. Summer is going by way too fast, and I know many kids and teachers are going back to school in less than two weeks. Time slow down pretty please!
Β
I always have fun guessing at the theme of the monthly promos… if I was going to put a name to it, I’d give it an acronym, SSRI 😬. The pharmacist in me just had a belly laugh πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜…(look up SSRI, and you’ll see what I mean as you read πŸ₯Έ)
In our little world for the month of August, SSRI means free products that are all about:
Scrubbing
Skin care
Relaxation
and Invigorating!
Β
1. Free Loyalty Reward points…. I’m completely invigorated any time I can save money on something I buy regularly. Who doesn’t love to save money? Guys and gals, if you are not using the Loyalty reward opportunity, you are missing out. Identify where you want to improve in your health life, and when you purchase healthy products (oils, supplements, skin care, non toxic household cleaner, cosmetics, snacks, etc), you receive points that are literally money in your pocket for more free products. In the current recession/inflation state we are in economically, there are two things that are important: staying healthy and saving money! None of us can afford not to do both.
Β
2. Eucalyptus Globulous…. one of my favorite scents because it smells like a spa….. fresh, clean, and invigorating. Eucalyptus is an interesting tree…. the Australian Aborigines are masterful healers using the tools available to them in nature. They use the leaves of the eucalyptus trees as wound cover because of its disinfecting properties. Maybe a few drops of this beautiful oil in a spray bottle (mix with water and a little witch hazel or vodka as a clean alcohol base), and you’ve got a good, clean smelling spray for stinky shoes, exercise equipment, etc. Bonus points…. it’s very handy as a bug repellant. Eucalyptus trees have been planted strategically in parts of North Africa to successfully block the spread of malaria in those areas. It’s a little too early for cold and flu season, but don’t forget it’s on your shelf when that time rolls around…. Dilute with a carrier oil and apply to chest and bottoms of feet for congestion relief!πŸ€“
Β
3.Patchouli is a member of the mint family, though it definitely doesn’t smell like peppermint or spearmint! 😁 It has an earthy smell to it. Interestingly, patchouli is the only essential oil whose fragrance improves as it ages, and it is a common additive in $100+ commercial perfumes. (Please, for the love of your health, learn to mix your own perfumes and colognes….. I can help you do this. Commercial perfumes are LOADED with endocrine disruptors πŸ₯΄) Patchouli has many health benefits…. regarding that SSRI reference, did you know that there have been many interesting studies examining patchouli’s effects on both the dopamine and serotonin? Here are links to two of them: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35631434/ and https://iopscience.iop.org/…/1742-6596/1321/2/022039/pdf . Patchpuli also has a history of benefitting the skin. I often add a few drops to my DIY face serum recipe… remember…. what you put on your skin has a direct effect throughout your body! Same with diffusing… things happen πŸ˜‰. Patchouli pairs well with lavender, orange, cedarwood, lemon, grapefruit, rose, ylang ylang, sandalwood (and many more!)
Β
4. Charcoal Mask….. have you tried this yet? Well, now’s your chance for free! Charcoal is a magnificent detoxifier, and a great way to soak up extra oil and exfoliate skin. (Word of caution… don’t apply to sunburned skin!). Other things we’ve used this mask for….. as a pit paste detox. If you’ve got stinky pits, it’s past time to work on detoxification. That’s your body speaking to you in it’s outside voice 🀨πŸ€ͺπŸ€“. A little dab on acne spots, and even a dab on bug stings and bites works well!
Β
5. Satin Facial Scrub….. This face scrub feels sooooooo good on the skin. Peppy and invigorating. Have you tried it yet? It gently exfoliates and leaves my face tingly and fresh!
Β
6. Thieves Kitchen and Bath Scrub. Honestly….. they should have called this the “Everything Scrub”. I’ve even had good luck using it on some hard to treat stains on laundry, on hubcaps, and outdoors on concrete stains (Thank you Kristine Lucius for that suggestion!) . It rapidly became a fast favorite for many of us when it was introduced a year or so ago. It’s powerful but also gentle (and of course, completely nontoxic!).
Β
7. Super B! If you know…. you know. Young Living has so many natural energy enhancers, and Super B is one of those. I was talking to a friend a few days ago, and we were talking about the two things people complain about the most…… lack of sleep and lack of energy. Ha! They go hand in hand, right? On the months that Super B isn’t free, this is a fantastic and economical way to get a healthy energy boost in your day. Chronic stress contributes to the depletion of B vitamins in our body, and unless you are an extraordinarily conscientious eater, there’s a decent likelihood your B load is subpar. Additionally, we need B’s for helping regulate blood sugar, nervous system function, hormone production, energy production, and more. Bonus points for also containing small amounts selenium and zinc, two necessary trace minerals needed for a healthy immune system, pancreas and thyroid function.
Β
Has one or more of these items already rocked your world? Please share your favorite story so we can learn from one another!
Have a beautiful and healthy Monday!
