Health Clues in Your Skin #1

Liz James · January 26, 2021 ·

We’ve moved on to new terrain! Skin holds sooo many clues friends. Please continue to be mindful of the difference between a singular clue and a diagnosis! A clue by itself may mean next to nothing, but if you can pair multiple clues together, the savvy personal health detective can often head off big health concerns by being proactive and using the right tools and lifestyle habits to get back on track!

Bags and Circles around the eyes👀 are separate clues, but often paired together.  Common causes of dark circles include stress, anemia, dehydration, fatigue, allergies, nasal congestion, a parasite load, chronic eye strain, thinning of skin, and unhealthy habits.

Chronic stress and fatigue often (and usually) go hand in hand. It’s awfully hard to get a good night’s sleep if you are under a great deal of stress. Conversely, if you are missing out on sleep for whatever reason, a chronically stressed body will ultimately result. We, in the Young Living community, have an arsenal of tools to help us sleep and keep our bodies and minds balanced even during stressful seasons. My bedtime regimen always includes oils (Tranquil or Rutavala are my go to!) to support healthy sleeping habits, and my nightly pre-bedtime ImmuPro supports both sleep and immune system function. I also mitigate stress with regular exercise, plenty of time outdoors, prayerful meditation time and faith based yoga.

Thinning of the skin happens naturally as we age simply because collagen production begins decreasing after about the age of 25…….the older we get the less our body produces! A couple of key ingredients that our body needs for collagen production include Vitamin C complex (hint:  Super C Chewables for the win!) and elemental sulfur (hint: Sulfurzyme ). Pair this clue with a quick look at your fingernails and make note of any evidence of pitting!

Perhaps you are feeling your dark circles might be clues related to allergies or chronic congestion? Allergies always have a digestive dysfunction component, and it may behoove you to look into Young Living’s  AllerZyme capsules for digestive enzyme support. I’ve personally also found several essential oils that work quite well in our home for seasonal respiratory support when used topically, diffused, or taken internally (in vitality form)….. What have you found that works for you?

As we discussed over in the fingernails section, parasites are not an uncommon first world problem. Check your fingernails for Beau’s lines for an additional clue!
Puffiness under the eyes is often a sign of inflammation or water retention. How might you pair puffiness with other signs of inflammation in the body?
Xanthelasma is the formation of cholesterol deposits around the eyes. While it can occasionally be hereditary, most often it is a clue that cholesterol levels are high. Recent research has also linked xanthelasma to type II diabetes. If you have found this clue around your eyes, I suggest reaching out to your favorite healthcare provider to schedule labwork to evaluate both cholesterol and blood sugar levels. (If you don’t have a healthcare provider handy, message me, and I can walk you thru setting up labwork analysis!)  Both high cholesterol and type II diabetes are largely correctable with changes to lifestyle and eating habits….. So be encouraged! You are the CEO of your own body, and that gives you the power to make healthy changes!

Are you starting to put clues together? It’s kinda fun, isn’t it? Agatha Christie would be proud!
Stay tuned for more skin clues coming your way…..

Childhood Cancer

Liz James · September 3, 2020 ·

My friend Jen Weir…. she’s walked this path and is as passionate in sharing truth and knowledge as I am. (Perhaps this is why we get along so well!)
Please…. instill logic into the 2020 equation.
I am reminded of the passages in the Bible…. a splinter versus a plank in one’s eye.
Childhood cancer is the plank being overlooked while the splinter that is the ‘rona is getting all the attention.
Why is that, I wonder?  (that’s a rhetorical question of course… I know the answer. Do you? )

Jen Weir:
I’ve gotten quite a number of folks irritated about my response on the whole not crisis virus.
Don’t get me wrong.
People get it.
People die.
Turns out, folks die everyday. The scriptures say “it’s appointed once for man to die”.
One of my  m a i n  reasons for giving frequent eye rolls is this stat right here.
Childhood cancer. The actual pandemic…
See, exactly 10 years ago my son was diagnosed with an extremely rare cancer for children to get.
What wasn’t rare was that kids get cancer.
Often.
Far too often.
We learned that because of lies doctors told us when he was a baby, v@x your child, use toxic soaps and lotions, be sure to slather him with sunscreen, etc, that all of these factors contributed to his body creating the cancer.
Never did they recommend diet change.
Never did they recommend remove horrific toxic substances from the home- cleaners, candles, boxed foods…
So you’ll excuse me if I don’t buy into the pandemic BS, when such a tiny percentage of adults are truly struggling. Let alone the negligible amount of  kids suffering under a bland virus.
Meanwhile, today- 43 kids will be told they have cancer.
Meanwhile, childhood cancer is the leading cause of death for kids under 20.
There is a much bigger epidemic happening, childhood cancer.
But perhaps you don’t care because childhood cancer hasn’t happened to your kid.
Is that it?
Does something have to affect us personally for us to actually care?
Or , **gasp** do something about it?

Plant Power

Liz James · August 18, 2020 ·

I thought I knew which plant this essential oil comes from looked like. ( I was wrong.) So much for knowing what I thought I knew! 😜 But seriously, curiosity is important in the learning process.
Shall we play a game?

🌿 This essential oil is available as both “regular” and vitality. (If you are unfamiliar with those terms, it means this particular oil may be diffused, taken internally (or cooked with), or used topically.
🌿 It comes from several different countries (none of which  is the USA)….. and was found to be used by the Egyptians in the mummification process. (Historically, it was highly valued for its varied uses)
🌿 Primary constituents (that which makes it an effective “tool” in our ‘at home’ wellness box) include :
Sabinene – known to support healthy inflammatory response and also create an unfavorable environment for fungus & wayward bacteria. Also a potent antioxidant
Beta-Caryophyllene –  also known for its strong support of a healthy inflammatory response, and a potent antioxidant.
Limonene- known for enhancing skin health, supporting kidney function, and also acts as a potent antioxidant.
🌿 This essential oil has been found to support and stimulate metabolism.
🌿 A study conducted in 2002 found that inhaling the fragrance from this essential oil induced a marked increase in plasma adrenaline concentration (ie = more energy!)

BENEFITS ENERGY AND METABOLISM AND SUPPORTS HEALTHY INFLAMMATORY RESPONSE……… THROWING IN A LITTLE PROTECTIVE “ATTITUDE” AGAINST FUNGUS AND WAYWARD BACTERIA…..
Who am I? 😎

Body odor

Liz James · August 5, 2020 ·

OK, this may sound really weird……. But have you ever thought much about body odor?…. And how some people have some seriously bad B.O. while other people don’t even give off offensive B.O. when they sweat, even if it’s during a hard workout? Why is this?

It’s not because of hygiene on the outside…. it’s because of hygiene on the INSIDE. Buildup of oxidized fats, malformed proteins, and other chemical “trash” in the body generates an aroma that no soap (or toothpaste or mouthwash) can overcome. (Some diseases can do this too, but for the sake of this convo, I’m only focusing on cellular hygiene today.)

What causes poor cell hygiene within us?…. All these rancid fats and denatured proteins that the body simply can’t get rid of fast enough?  I’m sure you’ve heard of free radicals and how bad they are for a body. Actually, they’ve been given a bit of a bad rap. They are absolutely essential to a healthy happy body, but when too many free radicals start gathering in the body, something called oxidative stress begins occurring.

Q: How do I slow down the production of free radicals and avoid oxidative stress?
A:  Clean up your “personal space”.
👉Limit your consumption of fats and oils that have been exposed to light, air and heat (which turns them rancid). Fried fast foods are notorious culprits.
👉Avoid preservative laced foods and processed meats
Stop contributing to “indoor smog” in your own home. #useyourdiffuser  Avoid damaging and toxic chemical household cleaners & artificial air freshening agents.
👉Avoid Smoking and being around second hand smoke
Make sure the water you drink is free from chemicals (most tap water is not)
👉Understand that many medications contribute to the formation of free radicals. Do your due diligence and look for healthy alternatives (or ways to improve your health so that you won’t need medication) whenever possible.
👉DO seek out strong antioxidants and incorporate them into your diet. Some of the strongest ones are wolfberries (also known as goji berry), blueberries, plums, cherries, aronia (also known as chokeberries), and pomegranates.
Not surprisingly, all of these are ingredients in our YL NingXia Red.

Q: What does Oxidative Stress do in our body?
A: It accelerates the aging process, contributes to cancer, atherosclerosis, Alzheimer’s, Parkinsons, and other diseases.
Although there are no officially recognized “symptoms” of oxidative stress, fatigue, headaches, noise sensitivity, memory loss, brain fog, muscle and joint pain, wrinkles, gray hair, vision trouble, decreased immunity AND strong BODY ODOR are all signs pointing towards damaging oxidative stress in our bodies.
So, if you are participating in our team NingXia Red Challenge this month (August), you might notice a change in your body odor for the better my friends……. And THAT is a very very good thing!

Sunshine Benefits

Liz James · July 22, 2020 ·

One of the fringe benefits of cleaning up your body (ie: ditching toxic ☠️ products) is pretty evident during the summer months. 🌞Sunburns and sun damage (tho they can still happen) usually become a less common occurrence.
Before I began cleaning up my diet, my skin care & personal care products, and our household cleaners and chemicals, it was not uncommon for me to get a decent sunburn a couple times a year. In college (years ago!), I got a few really memorable ones.😳
#thebabyoilyears #ThanksYLforallthetools
#ThievesHouseholdCleanerforthewin
Sun exposure is super beneficial on many levels, not the least of which is its role in the body’s ability to synthesize Vitamin D. We should strive for daily exposure to the sun, not hide from it! Many people fear going out in the sun because they burn so very easily, and while melanin plays a part in whether or not you are prone to sunburn, the reality is that the risk of sunburn and sun damage rises the more “polluted” the inside of your body is. I’m a blonde haired blue eyed farm girl, and have lived this fact.
There is a second part of this equation tho.
🌞In addition to ditching toxins, seek out foods that are high in antioxidants (like blueberries, wolfberries, kale, dark chocolate, beans, and pecans). These help bind up the damaging free radicals from both toxins and excess sun exposure.
I love that NingXia Red is loaded with both wolfberries and blueberries! It is a daily staple in our home.
🌞You’ll also want to eat foods high in lycopene. Lycopene is an antioxidant AND it also absorbs both UVA and UVB radiation. Reach for watermelon, tomatoes, red bell peppers, asparagus, red cabbage, and mangos as often as you can!
🌞Omega-3 Fatty Acids come into play as well! Does that surprise you? They help maintain our skin’s integrity and aid in a proper inflammatory response. In other words, they help our body cope with a little too much time in the sun. Walnuts, salmon, cod liver oil, flax, hemp and chia seeds are all loaded with Omega-3’s.
I try to get a handful of walnuts in my diet daily, but I ALWAYS take my OmegaGize3 (item #3097)!
🌞Foods high in beta carotene are also important. Beta carotene converts to Vitamin A in our body, and committing to a diet rich in carrots, dark leafy greens, butternut squash, sweet potatoes, cantaloupe, apricots, and red bell peppers over time (10 weeks according to one study) provides natural sunscreen protection.
🌞Green Tea contains a flavanol known as EGCG
(epigallocatechin gallate) which has been found to help reduce skin damage from UVA light and also help support healthy collagen (the protein responsible for our skin’s elasticity).
Young Living’s organic Vanilla Lemongrass green Tea (item # 32205) is just as good iced as it is hot. ☕️ Organic tea (and coffee) is so very important because the traditional non-organic processing methods are loaded with ☠️toxins.
🌿Young Living does have an amazing sunscreen (SPF 50 item #24137) that is toxin free (most on the market are loaded with unhealthy ingredients)…. So this was a welcome addition in our home when it became available a few years back!

Enjoy that sunshine friends! 🌞It’s one of God’s ways of smiling on us and it’s an absolutely free health and wellness tool we all have access to.
Be well!
xoxo~ liz
