#7 Viruses 101

Liz James · March 16, 2020 ·

Post #7: Viruses 101…. What we Know to be True about Viruses (aka…. the care and feeding of a virus)

What?!? You don’t want to care and feed a virus of any sort?
Well, then….. let’s set the stage for what it might look like to create an inhospitable environment should a virus want to step foot into your personal space. šŸ˜‰

Please refer to Posts #5 & #6 for Action Points #1, #2, and #3 ’cause I’m just gonna dive right in to…….

Plan of Action #4: Virus infection is dependent upon our body’s pH.

To give you 10 seconds of science…. (ie: the how and why)…..  Viruses LOVE an acidic environment because they rely of acidification of the endosomal compartment to enact their warfare on our cells.

What is the proper pH of a healthy person? Ideally, we want our body’s pH to stay in the slightly alkaline range of 6.8-7.5 to help reduce the risk and lessen the severity of “bug” infestations.

In researching about pH and viruses, I found a study by the Royal Free Hospital and School of Medicine in London. That study concluded that raising the body’s pH to an Alkaline state increases the immune system’s ability to kill pathogens.

A healthy pH is directly related to a healthy oxygen supply in the body. Hmmmm……. is it any coincidence that our pH is also directly related to our body’s electrical frequency? Nope. #wearefearfullyandwonderfullymade

šŸ‘‰TAKEAWAY: The lower the voltage of a body’s cell = the lower the body’s frequency = the lower the body’s pH = the more apt sickness is gonna occur.šŸ‘ˆ

Here’s a cool thing… we don’t all have to run out and get test strips to test our pH, although you can certainly do that if you’d like. An easy and quick reference is dependent upon your emotions.

People with an alkaline pH tend to be predominately happy, joyful, calm, peaceful and are generally healthy. People with a more acidic pH tend to harbor emotions of anxiety, fear, anger, guilt, unforgiveness…..and they tend to catch lots of bugs and are prone to more body system dysfunctions.

(This is physics, biology, and neuropsychology all rolled up into one. Please refer back to my post on frequency and viruses if you need a refresher!)

Elevated levels of ā˜ ļø carcinogens, toxins, exposure to indoor and outdoor pollution (this includes unhealthy foods and drinks) causes our cells to be unable to uptake oxygen efficiently. Indoor pollution (ie: what we deal with within our homes and offices) is actually more harmful than outdoor pollution.

Luckily, most of us are largely in control with, at least, our home indoor environment. As the gatekeepers, we have the authority to say what products we bring into our homes…… so it’s pretty important job if we are to stay slightly alkaline!

If you are new to the concept of removing toxins from your life, there’s no time like the present to start! (see previous posts in this series for pointers)
šŸ›€ DETOX BATHS ARE AN EASY WAY TO START ALLOWING YOUR BODY TO RETURN TO A HEALTHY ALKALINE STATE.
HERE’S AN EASY DETOX BATH RECIPE:
3/4 CUP EPSOM SALTS
2 CUPS BAKING SODA
1/4 CUP BENTONITE CLAY
MIX TOGETHER, AND CONSIDER ADDING 8-10 DROPS OF ANY OF THE FOLLOWING ESSENTIAL OILS TO YOUR MIXTURE BEFORE ADDING TO YOUR BATH WATER: FRANKINCENSE, LEMON, ROMAN CHAMOMILE, LEDUM, GERANIUM, FENNEL, BLUE TANSY, AND/OR HELICHRYSUM.

Additionally, make sure your detox bath oils are good ones. I cannot speak for other oil brands in terms of purity, and only use Young Living essential oils myself because I know they are unadulterated and, thru their strict distillation methods, they are able to maintain the integrity of the constituents (the working parts) of the oils. #prettyisasprettydoes

Remember tho….. detoxing does no good if you don’t first stop exposing yourself to that which made you acidic to begin with. #kickthehouseholdtoxinsout #kicktheacidicemotionsouttoo

You can learn more about the farming, distillation, and testing practices Young Living exemplifies at http://seedtoseal.com/en.

Each oil bottle has an individual batch number that can be traced all the way back to the very seeds or acreage of trees that were planted and harvested. I wish our food supply did this! It gives me great peace of mind to know every effort is being made to keep the oils in their purest therapeutically active form.

Another way to encourage alkalinity, is a simple ingredient most of us probably have in our own homes: Baking Soda.

I’ll admit, baking soda in water doesn’t taste great, but we can all take and do things if it increases the odds of being healthy, right? I have opted to utilize a YL product called Alkalime when I feel like I’ve dipped my toes into the acidic side of the wellness pool. It tastes much better than baking soda in water, but I’ve used baking soda in a pinch.

Take a look at this historical piece of info regarding baking soda and illness that I found:šŸ‘‡

“SODIUM BICARBā€œThe proven value of Arm & Hammer Bicarbonate of Soda as a therapeutic agent is further evinced by the following evidence of a prominent physician named Dr. Volney S. Cheney, in a letter to the Church & Dwight Company:
ā€œIn 1918 and 1919 while fighting the ā€˜Flu’ with the U. S. Public Health Service it was brought to my attention that rarely any one who had been thoroughly alkalinized with bicarbonate of soda contracted the disease, and those who did contract it, if alkalinized early, would invariably have mild attacks. I have since that time treated all cases of ā€˜Cold,’ Influenza and LaGripe by first giving generous doses of Bicarbonate of Soda, and in many, many instances within 36 hours the symptoms would have entirely abated. Further, within my own household, before Woman’s Clubs and Parent-Teachers’ Associations, I have advocated the use of Bicarbonate of Soda as a preventive for ā€œColds,ā€ with the result that now many reports are coming in stating that those who took ā€œSodaā€ were not affected, while nearly everyone around them had the ā€œFlu.ā€
Recommended dosages from the Arm and Hammer Company for colds and influenza back in 1925 were:
During the first day take six doses of half teaspoonful of Arm & Hammer Bicarbonate of Soda in glass of cool water, at about two hour intervals.
During the second day take four doses of half teaspoonful of Arm and Hammer Bicarbonate of Soda in glass of cool water, at the same intervals.
During the third day take two doses of half teaspoonful of Arm and Hammer Bicarbonate of Soda in glass of cool water morning and evening, and thereafter half teaspoonful in glass of cool water each morning until cold is cured.

This info ā˜ļø from Arm & Hammer historical archives is interesting, isn’t it? Our ancestors used some very simple things to stay well and healthy.  #anditworked

Plan of Action # 5 : Iodine
Iodine is absolutely critical to our immune system’s health, and approximately 97% of individuals in the USA are estimated to be deficient.

As long as we’re revisiting history, I stumbled across another interesting historical factoid about Iodine…. and I can’t recall ever learning it in pharmacy school. …. We definitely learned about iodine’s role in healthy thyroid function and that’s why I take a YL supplement ( Thyromin) that happens to have kelp (a natural source of iodine) in it to keep my thyroid happy….. but we’re talking about immune system function… not the thyroid today.

Interesting factoid: Did you know that it was once commonly recommended to mist areas with an iodine solution when there were viral outbreaks? I did a little perusing, and found a book (The International Record of Medicine and General Practice Clinics, Volume III circa 1920) that gave easy (but medically specific) instructions on how to do so… you can find it with a little digging on Google.

Then, I found this little jewel that was written more recently in 2009. Here is an excerpt (or you can read the full article also attached below)šŸ‘‡:

“When iodine was suspended in a solution, viral inactivation occurred at dilutions of 1/1,000,000. Aerosols inactivated many viruses within 30 seconds or less. Watery solutions such as Lu- [7,8,12] gol’s are the superior germicides. “

I’m wondering why nobody is doing this in virus laden areas nowadays? It’s cheap, easy, and harmless (unless you are a virus!). #IthinkIknowtheanswertomyownquestion $$$

OK…..I’m off to feed my farm-ily and soak in some nature.

Stay tuned…. Post #8 in this series is rollin’ around in my noggin.

And remember…. these are musings and observations based on what I know to be true about biology, physics, and history. Please do not interpret any of the above as diagnosing, curing, or treating. You do you. I’ll continue to do me 😘.

Stay healthy and be well!

#5 Corona Virus

Liz James · March 13, 2020 ·

Post #5 Corona Virus 101….. What we Know to be True about Viruses (aka… the care and feeding of a virus).

What?!? You don’t want to care and feed a virus of any sort?

Well, then….. let’s set the stage for what it might look like to create an inhospitable environment should a virus want to step foot into your personal space. šŸ˜‰

Rest assured, we are NOT sitting ducks and there is much we can do…. beyond buying excess toilet paper! #dothethings

Plan of Action #1: Girl (or guy!), wash your hands. It is a well established fact that 20 seconds of a good full on hand washing (esp palms and fingers) does a stellar job of keeping you healthy. I (personally) follow that with a dab of the Thieves hand sanitizer. I was working at the pharmacy yesterday, and all the hand sanitizer is out of stock (we were discussing gluing the bottle we have at the pharmacy down so someone doesn’t steal it 😳). Young Living’s Thieves hand sanitizer is also currently out of stock …. but more should be available soon. In the meantime, here is a recipe you can make for yourself:

2/3 cup Everclear (the potent alcohol you’ll need to get at the liquor store)
1/3 cup Aloe vera gel
8-10 drops of Thieves Essential oil ( please refer to Post #1 in this series and refer to the part about paper plates and turkey dinners…. only Young Living essential oils for me)
Mix all together thoroughly… use a small funnel and pour into a small bottle (reuse one you have or find a travel sized one at the store)

It’s a well established fact that viruses don’t like healthy habits!

Plan of Action #2: Viruses (frankly pretty much all illnesses!) thrive in low frequency environments. For some of you…. this will mean a great deal, but for others…. the concept of frequency will make no sense. Let me explain in simple science…. it’s all about electricity/ physics and biology. We humans (actually everything!) operates on electricity…. we are electrically charged.

Frequency is a term used when referring to electrical energy. Even if you are not a science aficionado, follow me for the next 10 seconds here (’cause this ain’t ‘woo woo’ stuff)……
*Frequency is the measure of the rate of the oscillation (of electrical current) and is measured in the number of changes per second – it’s also called hertz (Hz).

Everything has a frequency…. even we humans. The health of the human body is determined by where we are electrically. Certain parts of our body are even measured medically….. (think EEG’s and EKG’s). Overall, it is generally established that our body needs to be at a variable frequency between 62-72 to be healthy.

Viruses and bacteria hate this by the way…. it makes it very difficult for them to set up camp……Viruses start pitching their tents when your body’s frequency drops to 57-60 MHz.

So…… what can you and I do to raise our body’s frequency and/or keep it functioning in a healthy manner?
Positive thoughts and positive emotions. There are thousands of studies showing how simply thinking and reacting can affect your immune system (ie: causing a dip in your frequency if these things are negative)
šŸ’Ŗ Exercise…. not only does it raise your body’s frequency, it also helps repair your mitochondria and lengthen telomeres (an important part to health and aging with grace and ease).
šŸŽ LIVING foods…. ditch the processed foods and drinks and reach for foods that actually have an electrical charge to them. Processed foods are dead. They may have calories, but they are not sustaining long term.
🌳 A clean green lifestyle. If you’ve hung around me for any length of time, you know this is a cornerstone to my life. You don’t have to be a farmgirl to have this kind of life either…… Ditch the common chemicals in your life that drop your frequency faster than a 20lb kettleball hits the floor, and begin using clean green household cleaners, body care products, and makeup. I personally only use Young Living because it’s one stop shopping for all these things and I trust them and their ingredients 100%. This is one of the fastest ways to begin reversing low frequency bodies.
šŸŒ… Unplug, disconnect, and get out into nature regularly. I spoke in a previous post about 5G (and will speak more about that later), but electromagnetic frequency does a big (negative) number on our own body’s electricity. If you want to bring your body’s health to a grinding halt, surround yourself with EMF 24/7. Again folks…. this ain’t woo woo stuff… this is physics and biology all wrapped up in one.

Nature provides us with a way to rebalance our frequency/electricity. Trees, plants, the magnetism of the earth… it’s one of the reasons you feel so good after a day outside or at the beach. Your body’s frequency has had a rebound towards health.

Another advantage to having Young Living in your life are the life giving essential oils. Not all oils are the same ya’ll…. if you are using ones from Wally World, I guarantee they are polluted… which nullifies their positive effects on body frequency.
My go to YLEO’s when I feel the need to raise my frequency?
🌟 Joy and Forgiveness (both essential oil blends with a high frequency rating)
🌟 Rose oil actually has the highest frequency of all essential oils. (it’s terribly expensive if you are using the real stuff…. but it should be…. it takes over 200lbs of rose petals to get a bottle of the pure stuff). Thankfully, it is found in many Young Living blends (including Joy and Forgiveness)
🌟 Helichrysum (it’s a must have oil for many health reasons). It can be found in Panaway and other blends too.
🌟 Ravensara (this oil is not often thought of)…. but interestingly, if you do a little research, you’ll find that viruses are particularly not fond of this oil šŸ˜‰. This oil too is found in many YL blends.

Young Living has been very thoughtful in their blend formulations and as a pharmacist, that is strikingly important to me. #noflimsypaperplates

Here is but one pubmed article for your quick viewing if you’re interested in learning a bit more about the effects of frequency, EMF, and our bodies:

Who Gives A Fig?

Liz James · August 9, 2017 ·

Yowsers! We have figs. In fact, we have a disproportionate amount of figs. We have figs coming out our ears all from one very happy (but unknown species) tree.

We planted the little gal (there are male and female plants…. the girls being the producers) about 7 or 8 years ago, and it got off to a very rocky start…. multiple times. Every winter it appeared to die back to the brink of true death until two years ago. Last year we got spoiled by simply eating all we wanted off of the tree. There were enough to pick and eat daily, but not enough to make anything with. This year, the stars must have been lined up right because we have whopper crop this year. I’ve had to get on the ball and start collecting fig recipes. There are some amazing ones out there!

I’ve found this collection atĀ BonAppetitĀ (the figs with bacon and chile is on my ā€˜to do’ list… Wow… I’ll bet those flavors pop!)

I found a ā€˜cheeky chilli pepper fig chutneyā€˜ …..Ā you know anything chef Jamie Oliver puts together is going to be good. My dear friends Aryanne and Martin gave us one of Jamie’s cookbooks several years back. The man knows how to use his ingredients, no question about it. I love that he focuses on using fresh ingredients and prefers seasonal cooking (cooking with what is available at the appropriate season of harvest). I do think that was God’s intention anyway. We were never supposed to eat the same thing 365 days a year like we are prone to do now. It’s probably one of the reasons Ā the standard American diet is typically out of control and obesity and other body system dysfunctions continue to plague our country. If it’s not fresh, it’s likely filled with preservatives and other chemicals to make it taste more appealing.

And finally…. a ā€˜pear-fig-ginger-jam (with ahem… a dash of whiskey)ā€˜ that we’re gonna have to try. That sounds like it would be incredible over a block of yogurt cream cheese (labnah) or cream cheese with some crackers.

Figs are a food of the Bible, and are loaded chock full of health benefits. God is good that way… giving us just what we need.  Dried figs… the most common way people eat chem…. are even more densely loaded with nutrients than fresh. Although I like to eat them both ways, fresh from the tree is my preferred route of nourishment.

The Fig low down:

  • high in fiber
  • great source of magnesium, manganese, copper, potassium, and calcium (1 dried fig = the calcium in an egg!)
  • rich in vitamin K and B6
  • contain powerful antioxidants that neutralize disease and dysfunction causing free radicals (Ā just like some oils I know, love, and use!)
  • According toĀ Dr. Mercola’s websiteĀ figs have some other more unusual uses tooā€¦Ā ā€Ā Traditional medicine around the world has made use of figs as poultices on tumors, warts, and wounds. The fruit and leaves have been pulverized and gargled to relieve sore throats. Fig extracts and dried figs have been found to contain ingredients that protect the heart, regulate kidney and liver functions, lower blood pressure, lower incidences of macular degeneration, and inhibit some cancers, specifically post menopausal breast cancer.ā€Ā Ā Holy smokes Figman…. my cornucopia of wellness tools just got a little fuller!

Any of my local friends want some figs?  Give me a shout and this farmgirl can hook you up!

Take care, and have a blessed day,
liz

Garden Warfare

Liz James · May 7, 2017 ·

I’m not gonna lie. Gardening can be an exercise in exasperation. I think that’s probably why God put certain strains of bacteria in the soil that actually boost our serotonin levels and decrease our anxiety (ie: mycobacterium vaccae)….. otherwise, we’d probably have thrown in the trowel and starved to death long ago!

In years past, my gardening nemesis (aside from too little or too much rain) has nearly always been squash bugs .  They are pervasive and will ultimately kill or severely cripple anything that resembles a squash plant. They also stink to high heaven when you squish them (the only way I know to kill them organically). My proboscis so sensitive that I can smell them (dead or alive) before I see them.

I’ve been gardening for about 10 years…. honing my skills every year. Successful gardening is definitely an acquired skill….and you can’t quit learning or something will eat your lunch. Literally! Prior to this year, I didn’t think I could hate a garden pest more than squash bugs, but clearly I’d never met the cucumber beetle. I’m glad I know Jesus, because if I didn’t, I’m fairly certain that my personal h*ll would include these garden pests.

I planted in early April. This last North Texas winter was a mild one, and all the signs indicated that the last frost was behind us. I watched my rows carefully, waiting for the little seedlings to pop up out of the soil. I always get a little extra heart pitter patter when I see them emerge.  This year, each morning when I went out to do a quick check and spot weed, my seedlings started completely disappearing nearly as fast as they came out of the ground. What the what??? It took me several days to identify the culprit. While we do have a few of the spotted variety (see above left), the majority of these evil suckers look like the ones on the right. Striped destruction. Right there. They have eaten every single plant in the cucumber, melon & watermelon family, and THEN they started on my squash. Are you kidding me?? Even the squash bugs have their gustatory boundaries.

If you’ve stuck around here for any length of time, you know that we go as organic as possible on the farm. In the garden, we are 100% organic all the way down to our heirloom seeds and homegrown cow manure compost. Unfortunately, all of the resources I found on organically managing cucumber beetles required some serious forethought and planning….. the kind of planning that you do in the fall and winter.  Helpful information, but too late in the game.

Organic gardening isn’t so much about destroying the enemy as it is repelling and reducing the numbers of ā€˜feet on the ground’. In my search, I found a few different general gardening ā€˜bug be gone’ recipes, but I didn’t have all of the ingredients on hand for any single recipe. Time was short. The cucumber beetles had systematically moved on to my young squash plants, and there were beetles everywhere. Complete and utter destruction of all things cucurbit was eminent.

I decided to take the ingredients listed in a few recipes, and combine them for my recipe:

ā€œBug Be Goneā€ Brew

1 big deep bucket or ā€˜under the sink’ style trash can
1 old fashioned flour sifter
about 3 gallons of food grade Diatomaceous Earth (DE)
about 1 cup of premade  minced garlic (I will make my own in the future, but urgency required the premade stuff)
about 2-3 mls each of the following oils. I use Young Living Oils because I know they are potent, pure, and full of health benefits! …. and once again, we are striving to be 100% toxin free, especially in the garden.

  • Thyme
  • Rosemary
  • Clove
  • Peppermint

I added the oils to the garlic and then added that mixture to the bucketful of DE. Make sure you have enough room in the bucket to mix thoroughly without spillage. It is some pretty potent smelling stuff!

I then began sifting the mixture over the plants, making sure to get the ground around the plant well covered too.  Honestly, that part went way faster than I anticipated. I did notice that the beetles seemed to scurry when I started applying the dust, but I decided to withhold my assessment for a few days.

I also went back and replanted seeds on the same day that I spread the initial application. I put some of the DE mixture in each little hole I made for the seeds, and then put some on the top of the rows for good measure.

It’s now 6 days later, and I’m happy to report that the cuke beetle population has definitely made a dramatic turn. While I still find an occasional straggler, for the most part, it appears there has been a retreat by the enemy. My new seeds are coming up, and I am being vigilant about dusting them once they pop thru the upper crust of the soil, and re-dusting them after watering. So far so good….. but for now, I’d call this battle a victory.

My garlic is nearly ready to harvest and I will be making more of my Bug Be Gone with my own cloves in the future. The sifter is a key piece of equipment for this endeavor. Mine came from my kitchen, but you can find ones like it in junk stores, or just buy a new one on line for about 10$.

Enjoy your day!…. and I hope you win whatever battle you’re currently fighting.

Important Vitality Oils

Liz James · January 11, 2017 ·

If you have been exploring oil companies at all, you will find that many have labels that say ā€œdo not ingestā€. Pure oils should be edible.  Young Living not only stands behind the purity of its products, it has also created a line of oils and oil blends that are specifically labeled for consumption.

Vitality Dietary essential oils are the perfect way to add flavor and nutrition to foods and beverages of all kinds…..which, as a prepper, could come super handy if we’ve stored food and water that is somewhat bland, but more importantly…..  these oils supplement your health & wellness regimen!

There are 4 types of Vitality oils for you to try (remembering that while adding amazing flavor to food and drink…. they also each support various body systems!)

  • Herb Vitality – Add flavor and freshness with a drop of your favorite herbs.
  • Spice Vitality – Discover your favorite new way to deliver a culinary kick.
  • Citrus Vitality – Brighten your water, smoothies, and recipes with vitamin-rich citrus.
  • Supplement Vitality – Nutritious drops to support your body and enhance your day.

These little 5ml bottles are a perfect addition to your Bug Out Bag. While taste and smell are important, their value to health and wellness management is priceless!

You can check them all out here.
