Health Clues in Your Teeth – part 3

Liz James · May 3, 2021 ·

Do you utilize vitaflex/reflexology points on your hands, feet, and even earsšŸ‘‚ when you apply essential oils? Do you have an excellent massage therapist who is able to make you feel better both physically and emotionally after a nice long appointment? Have you ever employed the powerful tool of acupuncture or acupuncture point based therapy as a means of retaining or regaining health or function?Ā

Or, are you just not sure ā€œthose thingsā€ are real? As a 100% science minded health professional, I needed some strong evidence….. After all, these applications are not taught in the Western medicine education system. So, as any good doubting Thomas would do, I set out not to disprove what I didn’t understand….. but to dig for validation and information of what was confounding me! Never discount something because it doesn’t make sense to you or doesn’t fit the mold you’ve been taught!Ā  Dig until you find the truth. My own digging has led me through many books, conferences, professional journal articles, and pubmed…. and through these…. Hard facts and data.Ā

We are energetic beings. Energyāš”ļø is measured by the rate of oscillation of an electrical current (measured inĀ  hertz/ Hz). The rate of this oscillation of current is called frequency. EEG’s and EKG’s are measuring the frequency of the brain and heart respectively. Those are only two organs….. The entire body is one big energy frequency machine! āš”ļøāš”ļøāš”ļøāš”ļø

Acupuncture is based on 14 energetic meridians in the body. (For ease of discussion, I will refer to them as rivers)Ā  If one of those energy ā€œriversā€ (meridians) becomes stagnant, damaged or ā€œcloggedā€, the entire ā€œriverā€ will be affected. Over time, that damaged ā€œriverā€ flow will cause pain, dis-ease or dysfunction within the parts of the body it runs through. As that meridian becomes more damaged, it will begin to affect other meridian functions too.Ā

The role teeth play within a body’s energy circuits is one of the most important clues I will write about. This is where physics meets biology! Our teeth are crystalline structures, and they act as a circuit breaker for the meridians in our body. A decayed tooth or a root canal (which actually leaves residual decay behind even when patched up) acts as a resistor on the specific electrical circuit, and eventually, this will show up as pain, dysfunction, or illness somewhere else in the body along the same meridian (river). Interestingly, over 90% of malignancies are associated with a root canal or decayed tooth on the same meridian.Ā

The easiest way to utilize teeth as clues for both present and future health concerns is to reference a chart. ( I will include an example of one below this article).I often use teeth as a clue to ā€œroot causeā€ and ā€œroot preventionā€.Ā  Pun intended!

Let’s take my 1st upper molar as an example. If I had a root canal or untended cavity in that particular tooth,Ā  over time, the frequency would drop within the stomach meridian of my body. Because I know my frequency is now prone to dropping in the stomach meridian, I would pay special attention to, and support all of the corresponding organs and tissues in an effort to prevent future dis-ease and dysfunction. (Refer to the chart )

* I would watch my thyroid numbers closely thru comprehensive annual (if not more frequent) thyroid labwork, and support my thyroid function as needed with Young Living’s Thyromin capsules and/or Endoflex essential oil blend.

* I would also make sure my liver, pancreasĀ  and stomach had the tools they needed to function efficiently. Digestive enzymes (Detoxzyme or EssentialZymes-4 are my two favorites), and Juvatone capsules for liver support on the regular!

* I’d work to keep my body well hydrated, exercise, and avoid medication that is particularly hard on the kidneys (ex: IbuprofenĀ  and other NSAIDS).

* I’d know that my weakest point on my spine was potentially going to be where the thoracic vertebrae meets the lumbar portion of the spine, and I would work to keep it strong, healthy, and flexible thru exercise focusing on core strength and flexibility.Ā

* I’d know that my jaw and knee joints would be things to keep an eye on and support accordingly to prevent injury.Ā

* I’d know that my trunk muscles needed extra focus at the gym in terms of muscle groupings. #legday #BLMandSulfurzymeforthewinĀ

* I’d want to support my maxillary sinus in a healthy way so that I don’t become prone to sinus infections. I would do this by diffusing all our healthy ā€œbreathing oilsā€ and by using my home made (amazing!!!) nasal spray regularly.

All of these body parts I just mentioned are tied to the stomach meridian in the body, and they are going to need a little extra TLC to keep them healthy since the tooth itself is now working against the body.

Forewarned is forearmed, right?!?Ā  Using the health of specific teeth to determine how best to support your body is an easy and excellent way to hopefully sidestep potential issues elsewhere in your body in the future!Ā

If you’d like to know more about teeth and their relationship to our health, here are some excellent book šŸ“š resources (note that all of the authors are either doctors or dentists who have also done their additional research to learn the truth!!):

Health Clues in Our Teeth – part 2

Liz James · April 27, 2021 ·

Our body is highly skilled at sounding alarms🚨 that we often ā€œhit the snooze buttonā€ on, ignore out of ignorance, or simply disregard. I was ā€œthat personā€ many years ago when I went through about 18 months of tooth emergencies.😭 I didn’t have a single cavity until I was in college, and always had pretty stellar dental visits. However, when I was in my mid 30’s, something strange started happening. On 3 different occasions, a piece of tooth would literally fall off of a molar while I was driving to work in the morning. 😳 Though I had no evidence of wear on my teeth, my dentist finally determined that I must be gritting my teeth so hard while I slept that I was literally breaking my teeth. Once we figured out the root cause and I found better ways to manage my stress , I quit breaking teeth, stopped having headaches every morning upon waking up, had fewer neck, elbow, and wrist problems, and generally felt better and happier as a human! My body was giving me so many clues, and I was ignoring all of them (or ā€œpatching themā€) until my body literally started falling apart. It was an expensive but valuable lesson!Ā

* Worn down or regular breaking of teeth are often signs of stress. Internalized chronic stress has the same effect on the body as smoking 5 cigarettes a day, and who wants to abuse their body like that?? Not sure if you are grinding or clenching your teeth?Ā  Sometimes the flatness on the teeth can be felt with the tongue or seen in the mirror, or your dentist may have made a comment to you. A chronically stressed body may also see a higher incidence of canker sores or fever blisters…. all are clues that shouldn’t be ignored.

* Chronic stress will cause consistently higher levels of cortisol in the body, eventually wreaking some major havoc. Manage stress properly by incorporating mindset management skills, prayer/meditation, exercise, diet andĀ  proper amounts of sleep.Ā  Consider supportingĀ  healthy cortisol levels with Young Living’s Cortistop. If clenching, gritting or grinding is your nighttime gig, you may also want to consider a mouth nightguard to help mediate damage, and apply Peace & Calming, RutaVala, or Tranquil essential oil blends on the base of the big toes at night.Ā

Ā
* Thin enamel or cracking/crumbling teeth are often clues of acid reflux. (We will go overĀ  acid reflux clues in greater detail soon.)Ā  Several medications may also affect the integrity of teeth. Asthma medications (inhaled), chewable aspirin, birth control pills, immunosuppressive agents, chemotherapy agents,Ā  and any of the 400+ meds that cause dry mouth ( revisit that section for more details) are among the bigger culprits. If you find yourself in a situation where any of these medications are deemed necessary, make sure you are rinsing your mouth out often with Thieves Mouthwash to create an inhospitable environment for bad bacteria that may want to set up camp and create further damage.

* Chronically sensitive or swollen gums may be a sign of an underlying Vitamin C deficiency (approximately 13% of the US population), an early sign of heart disease, diabetes, or (less commonly) a blood disorder.Ā  It can also simply be a sign of poor oral hygiene! Medications that may cause bleeding gums include blood thinners, aspirin, and regular use of ibuprofen or other NSAIDS.

* Gum overgrowth (hyperplasia)Ā  is more pronounced than simply swollen gums. While often a symptom of poor oral hygiene, it most frequently results from the use of certain medications:Ā  anti seizure meds, immunosuppressants, or calcium channel blockers (a class of blood pressure medications). There are physiological disorders that may cause hyperplasia too. Diabetes or Crohn’s disease are two of the more common ones.

* Pretty much everyone brushes their teeth in front of a mirror, which is an opportune time to make a quick daily evaluation of teeth, gums, mouth & tongue. Once you get into the habit of doing this, you will notice small changes pretty quickly, and you can often correct a situation without professional intervention!Ā
Ā Next week, I’ll discuss specific tooth health as a predictor for potential health concerns! It’s fascinating and such a helpful tool in knowing how to care for yourself preemptively.

April Gifts from Young Living

Liz James · April 1, 2021 ·

No foolin’! Happy April friends!

We will begin to see some slightly different Young Living lingo as we prepare as a company to migrate over to a new gorgeous and easy to use website in the next month. #itshappening !
Our monthly freebies will be called “gift with (qualifying) purchase”…. easy enough, right?

Here’s a few tips on this month’s gift with purchase:
Thieves (15ml): if you haven’t popped a roller top on this staple and been applying to the bottoms of your feet on a daily basis, you are missing out on a VIP Immune supportive tool! Remember, what goes on the body affects every cell in the body (good or bad). Thieves is a highly potent “good guy”.

Bergamot (5ml): elevate your mood with a few drops of this beauty in your diffuser! It is our pastor’s favorite oil to diffuse in his office while he works (one of mine too!).

Grapefruit (15ml): one of my personal favorites! Such a fresh and happy scent in the diffuser, and when applied topically (or using the vitality internally…. remember, same oil different label) it’s very supportive of metabolism and lymphatic system flushing.

Jade Lemon (5ml): Another glorious smelling happy citrus oil! I keep a bottle of Jade Lemon in my laundry room and add a few drops to dryer balls to freshen up my laundry.

Tangerine (15ml): My favorite of all the citrus oils! Relaxing and happy ! All of these citrus oils are loaded with limonene…… if you areĀ  inclined….. head over to pubmed.gov and do some digging. You will be shocked (in a good way!) and amazed at what limonene does for us.

Citrus Fresh (15ml): Ya’ll, we’re all gonna feel like we live smack dab in the middle of a citrus orchard before April is overšŸ˜šŸŠšŸ‹šŸˆšŸŠšŸ‹šŸˆ, and I’m good with that! God gave us these fragrances because He knew how impactful they are to our neurotransmitters that need a little happy boost sometimes! I implore you…… grab your books and do some digging. Each one of these oils have powerful jobs beyond just smelling amazing!

Peppermint (15ml): Well now, peppermint anywhere is amazing! Remember that it too comes as both “regular” and “vitality” (same oil, different bottle label). In the diffuser, it’s amazing for concentration and focus, and when added to your water it also adds a little pep to your step (and aids in calming unhappy colons!). Topically, it can help cool a hot body (have you ever tried making a “hot day ” body spray?). This oil is incredibly versatile and I bet ya’ll could drop another 20 ways you have used this oil!

How are ya’ll going to use these? Share a way you use one of these oils! You’ll be helping others out just by sharing your experiences and victory stories!

Health Clues from Your Tongue Part 1

Liz James · March 30, 2021 ·

Tongue Clues: Part I
Nobody ever said clue hunting would be glamorous….. Just ask any dental hygienist about health clues found in the mouth! My hat’s off to these health professionals because they see many warning signs and health clues and (hopefully) help save lives in the process! The tongue alone will keep us busy! So grab a mirror and excellent lighting, and let’s proceed!
šŸ‘…The human tongue is arguably one of the stronger muscle sets of the body. It operates independently of the skeleton and, much like the heart, the tongue is always working. It helps in the mixing process when eating, is crucial to forming letters when we speak and assists in filtering out germs. Even when we sleep, the tongue is constantly working to push saliva down the throat.Ā
Ā šŸ‘…The tongue is also highly vascular. Even the slightest changes in the constituents of an individual’s blood will be reflected in the appearance of the tongue thru color, shape, coating, and markings.
Tongue mapping is an Eastern medicine tool, and Western medicine also uses the tongue’s appearance to provide valuable health information. According to Eastern tongue mapping practices (and I’d encourage you to do a little research on this), the tongue can be roughly divided into 3 sections:
Tip = heart & lungs
Middle = liver, gallbladder, stomach, and spleen
Back = intestines, bladder, kidneysĀ
As you look at your tongue, take note of where the clues lie on the tongue according to mapping.
In order to identify clues, we first need to establish what a healthy tongue should look like! The best time to look for clues is first thing in the morning (just like the Candida spit test!), before brushing your teeth and tongue.
šŸ‘…Color should be consistent across the entire tongue, and should be a light pinkish red, with a very thin white coating over it.
šŸ‘…It should be moist but not too wet or too dry.
šŸ‘…Small cylindrical taste buds on the entire top surface of the tongue.
šŸ‘…No cracks, ulcers, teeth marks, lumps, or discolored patches should be present.Ā
As you look at your tongue, first note the color of the tongue itself (not the film on the tongue just yet).
šŸ”ŽA very pale or light colored tongue may be indicative of iron deficiency, and is sometimes paired with taste bud atrophy, tongue pain,Ā  and occasionally cracks on the side of the mouth. A pale tongue may also indicate poor circulation in the body.Ā
šŸ”ŽA red inflamed tongue (sometimes known as beefy tongue) may indicate a folate or Vitamin B12 deficiency.Ā  Roughly 40% of the adult US population have a B12 deficiency. Frankly, that is not surprising considering the Standard American Diet and extreme overuse of antacids and acid blocking medications which inhibit Vitamin B12 absorption and assimilation.
Now take a look at the ā€œcoatā€ color your tongue is wearing (Remember, a thin white coat is healthy!):
šŸ”ŽA thicker white or yellowish coating on the tongue may indicate sluggish digestion and even possibly chronic constipation.Ā  Digestive enzymes (Essentialzyme, Essentialzymes-4, Allerzyme, or Detoxzyme) and Life 9 probiotic would be an optimal choice to add to your next Young Living order!
šŸ”ŽA ā€œsticky lookingā€ coating is suggestive of excess phlegm or mucus production in the body.Ā
šŸ”ŽA black or brownish tinted tongue is most often diet and habit related. This is often related to trapped bacteria and yeast. A permanent brown coating may be an indication of lung dysfunction and is often seen in smokers. There are a few medications that can cause a darker coating on the tongue, but this is normally a transient effect that stops once the medication is discontinued.Ā
šŸ”ŽPainful white or red patches on the tongue is usually a sign of thrush….evidence of candida overgrowth. It is commonly seen in poorly managed diabetes, after a round of antibiotic therapy, or steroid use (inhaled steroids are notorious for causing this!). All dis-ease begins in the gut, and candida overgrowth anywhere on the body is a sure sign that diet and digestion support desperately need addressing. #lovethegutyourwith
Everything looking good so far? Next week we’ll cover more tongue clues!Ā

Health Clues You Can Use: The Candida Spit Test

We’ve moved on to the mouth ya’ll! Today we’re only going to cover one topic because it is large and important: Candida. Candida traditionally gets a bad rap as a fungus amongst us, but it actually has a valuable job in digestion and nutrient absorption. The problem is that a little goes a long way, and when its environment is favorable, Candida will take over in a hot minute……and in our modern world, it doesn’t take long for that to happen!

A few of the most common triggers for candida run amok include:
šŸ”„A high carb, high sugar diet
šŸ”„Excessive alcohol consumption
šŸ”„Chronic Stress
šŸ”„Certain medications (eg: Statins, antacids,Ā  birth control pills and synthetic hormone replacement therapies for both men and women,Ā  antibiotics, steroids -including inhaled, immunosuppressants typically given to treat autoimmune disorders)
šŸ”„Heavy metals (think fillings and some tattoo inks)
šŸ”„Even a diet excessively rich in fermented foods can aggravate the healthy gut flora balance. #everythinginmoderationfriends!

A healthy gut generally keeps Candida levels under control. This is but one reason to embrace the daily ritual of taking šŸ‘‰Young Living’s Life 9 probiotic.Ā  Candida is often a contributor to leaky gut. In a perfect world, everything stays inside the gut, but the little tentacle-like fingers that candida grows may push thru the gut lining causing the digestive tract to leak into the body. This is problematic for many reasons, but for the point here…….Candida can now invade other parts of the body, transitioning into a full-body attack.Ā

Symptoms of candida overgrowth can be experienced in many different forms:
šŸ‘‰Skin infections and disorders (athlete’s foot, jock itch, vaginal yeast infections, ringworm, and fungal infections in folds of skin, eczema, hives and rashes of unknown origin )
šŸ‘‰Nail infections including toenail fungus (go back and check your nail clues notes!)
šŸ‘‰Digestive issues including diarrhea, constipation, and/or bloating
Flareups of autoimmune diseases (including Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, psoriasis)
šŸ‘‰Severe seasonal allergies
šŸ‘‰Itchy ears
šŸ‘‰Strong sugar and refined carb cravingsĀ
šŸ‘‰Difficulty concentrating, brain fog,Ā  poor memory and/or lack of focus

Are your spidey senses humming with some of these clues? If so, it’s time to try the ā€œCandida Spit Testā€.

CANDIDA SPIT TEST:
This simple test is best done first thing in the morning before ANYTHING is put into the mouth (even water!).Ā
Spit into a clear glass filled with water.
Observe your spit every 15 minutes for one hour.
A ā€œpositiveā€ test would include the following features:
* Strings of saliva resembling jellyfish tentacles traveling down into the waterĀ
* Cloudy specs suspended in the water
* Cloudy saliva that sinks to the bottom of the glass

If there are none of these features in the glass after one hour,Ā  the odds are in your favor that your Candida population is under control. Remember that our bodies change daily, especially if there has been an extended season of stress or exposure to Candida triggers. This is a good test to consider employing whenever you have a few of the symptoms (ahem, clues!) mentioned above.Ā

If you discover that you likely do have a candida population explosion, remember to work on eliminating the triggers mentioned above, make sure you are taking Life 9 and one of Young Living’s digestive enzymes (Essentialzymes-4, Essentialzyme, Allerzyme, Detoxzyme, or for the kiddos – MightyZyme) daily for healthy gut support, and consider incorporatingĀ  ā€œcandida dietā€ eating habits into your life!Ā
A healthy immune system will help keep Candida growth in check too! You know what to do, right? Support your body with all the tools available to us through Young Living and nature!Ā
